Would you get a Civic if your daily commute was 2 miles?

I say go for it!

1. It’s your attainable dream car!
2. You’ve worked hard saving for it. Great job!
3. You deserve it!
4. Whatever dilution issues you’re worried about would probably be pretty minimal in the long-run (as far as I know).
5. The Si is a fantastic car, especially the 2019. Seems more refined than previous years, as is (we would think) the 2020.
6. The Si is a FANTASTIC car! Outside of your short commute, driving it during every other aspect of your life will be super fun! You’ll probably find excuses to take it out!
7. The mod community is strong, if you want. If not, it’s great as it is.

Personally, I’d just ensure you can park far away from others at the train station in order to prevent door dings, etc.

Hope this helps!

Edited to add: as I’m sure others can attest, it’s all worth it when you’re coming back from work, and you see your awesome ride sitting there, just waiting for you.:D:drive:

My commute is similar, I tried walking it once and it took 50 mins whereas the drive is 5 mins. I didn't know anything about an oil dilution issue when I bought the car though I don't think it would have swayed me much especially given they did a recall to address the issue. Hopefully going from heated garage to heated garage helps, I'm fortunate to have that luxury when the temperatures drop (or get blazing hot).

I don't have a commute so I bought a Type R, but let me provide a different perspective:

My daily before the Civic was a 2014 Fiesta 3 cyl. I bought it in 2017 for $7000. I parked it everywhere, I never washed it, and it was awesome. I snugged it in to too tight spaces that I KNEW the person next to me was going to ding my car, and you know what? I didn't care. It was awesome. I got a bunch of road tar on it once, and then I had a bunch of road tar on it. I sold it for $6500, 2 years and 20,000 miles later.

Now, driving my Type R around, I park at the back of lots. I have to drive slowly over train tracks. I have to take a lot of parking lot entryways sideways. The car isn't lowered; it's just low. I'm constantly thinking about where my car is in space and where other people are in relation to it. I'm fine with it because I get to drive a Type R, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss parking in the first spot I found, no matter how sketchy, downtown.
Totally agree. Being cognizant of where we park is paramount for us, I think.

If anything you should get a street bike/cafe cruiser. They are perfect for getting around the city and often have good gas Milage. A car is a waste of money for that commute.

My commute on the si was 5 mins in NJ, now its 6 minutes to the train. I live in a hilly area too. I wish it was longer tbh. Personally, I would just buy a used fun car and just save for something faster like a Type R unless you have no desire in something faster and the Si was your goal.

So no one proposed an electric car (also known as a golf cart ) ? How very unpopular and unsuccessful electric cars are still today if they are not even considered for 2 mile trips instead of a bicycle. Many enthusiasts of electric cars already 30 years ago thought that they were not common only because of a conspiracy of the oil men. After all these years of development, electric cars are apparently still a failure if they are not an obvious choice even for ultra-short commutes.

Oil dilution or not, DI or not, no ICE will do well on 2 mile commutes. It's just not good for it.

That's exactly it. Two miles barely gets the oil flowing properly. And the engine clearly won't get to normal operating temps. Even the battery takes a hit because it's never getting much of a charge. A 2 mile trip is about the worse thing you can constantly do to a car (other than constant 1 mile trips lol).

I don' think it matters what car you get. If you're concerned with the oil dilution in the 1.5, follow what others have suggested about it. The 2.0NA is very underrated/underestimated, I have one in my 2016. I have no complaints with it, and it's a great motor I'd highly suggest it.

Or you can always get an older generation civic like a Gen 8/9. Or don't even drive it for your commute, and use it when running errands or other trips. Ride a bicycle, train, bus, for your commute if that is an option. To me that's a blessing to be only 2 miles from work, I've got a ~40 mile round trip every day.
