I get a lot of trips that list 35 - 39, but my average , determined by using two different apps, is only between 21 and 26.
I've also found that if I set the trip B, to reset on refiling , it's the same as the apps I use.
I have trip A set to reset after every start, and although it seems like the shorter trips affect the average more than the ones I'm getting 38 or say 42 on, it's only cause I do a lot more short trips than I think about.

I'm still not convinced of the accuracy of the onboard MPG estimate i'm 2 tanks in and i reset the Trip B when I fill up, i use the same pump at the same station and fill it till it clicks off and I manually calculate my actual MPG and I came in at 33.6 MPG on the last tank (first tank data is invalid because I had to get gas where i bought the car cause the tank was nearly empty) and the Trip B estimated MPG was on the high side of 34 maybe pushing 35 and had been as high as like 38-39 earlier in the tank (and this is a work vehicle so I drive the same route at the same time of day every day, so it's the ultimate measure of consistency), I could see these cars doing 40 maybe a little over on pure highway at 55-65 MPH but to anyone claiming in the 50's from the computer saying it I would ask have you checked the numbers manually?

Donā€™t forget the numbers itā€™s giving you on the infotainment are averages, not the actual mpg.

I donā€™t make an effort to maximize mpg so my lifetime mileage is exactly 28mpg. I have 80/20 city/fwy but my freeway drive home might as well be stop and go because of how congested it is. Also the week after I got my cai my mileage dropped to 27mpg because extreme turbo noises haha. Went back up to 28 after I started driving like I normally do though.

Not complaining about 28mpg at all, in my previous car Iā€™d average 15mpg with the same driving habits and it was an NA 4cyl. 28mpg was SERIOUS grandma mode and it really wasnā€™t worth it especially in the city.

I imagine that people with consistent 35+ mpg either have miles of open road commute, or drive like a grandma regardless of traffic

Part of it is pure arithmetics of "gas mileage" as opposed to "fuel consumption".

Let's say someone drives 100 miles highway in good mood early in the morning with no traffic and achieves a great average mileage of 50 mpg. Then she returns the same 100 miles angry in the afternoon traffic jams and road works and gets a dismal 5 mpg. She might hope her average mpg over the whole 200 mile trip would be (50+5)/2 = 27.5 mpg, but it's in fact only 9.1 mpg.

Now if she was Canadian, she would drive 161 km with an average fuel consumption of 4.7 L/100 km, and then return 161 km with average fuel consumption of 47 L/100 km.

The average fuel consumption over the entire 322 km trip would be 25.85 L/100 km, which is exactly what she would expect, because 25.85 is the average of 4.7 and 47. (4.7+47)/2 =25.85

(Of course 25.85 L/100 km is the same as 9.1 mpg.)

Can we just ban mileage topics? OP, the car is potentially capable of amazing highway mileage. Pure city driving mpg's are average. You have to remember that mileage varies by so many factors, it's unfair (and sometimes frustrating) to compare. Please don't go by a screenshot of someone driving 40 miles on the highway if you do mainly stop and go, for example. It's apples to oranges.

Also you mentioned about noises in L (normal with a CVT) so you obviously use that gear. Remember that L keeps power at it's peak which will also burn more gas. D is your best bet for mpgs. The Econ button mostly just dulls throttle response so don't bother.

I'm averaging ~35mpg w/o eco mode, D-mode, mix of highway and city in my 2.0NA. The second car I've owned with incredible mpg, first being a 97 civic lx years ago. Having a heavy foot does contribute to loss of mpg. I've learned to drive conservatively, light footed, and still enjoy driving the car in this manner.

Never. Eco nerfs the peddle, something I can do my own self by restraining the foot. It also fusses with the output of the AC and also, no thanks on that either please. I have tried driving with it on and don't really notice any appreciable increase in efficiency so the negatives outweigh the positives and it stays off.

I could see these cars doing 40 maybe a little over on pure highway at 55-65 MPH but to anyone claiming in the 50's from the computer saying it I would ask have you checked the numbers manually?
Yes, I have and it matched more than close enough to always trust it.

Donā€™t forget the numbers itā€™s giving you on the infotainment are averages, not the actual mpg.
Actually, the latest systems aren't doing the last 100 kms of driving average. They are the actual consumption rate average from the moment the trip is reset until you reset it again. (I actually use the automatic trip reset on tank fill up so that I always see the rate for that tank.) If they were using the old ways, then I would never be able to get the trip computer to match the manual calculation.

Just finished a 1,000 mile drive to the coast of Florida and back. Averaged 44.8 for the entire trip. About 70% was interstate driving and my speed averaged 73-75 mph.

I have a lil over 2k miles on my 19 sport sedan and so far my averages have ranged between 20-26 mpg. That's by taking miles driven/gallons filled. Unfortunately I do mostly short trips in city. The best average I've seen is 38 mpg on a 100 mile trip mostly freeway.
