Ok. Last labor day some stupid girl was driving around a corner that you have to turn left. She decided to apex the corner and and smacked right into the front of my car. She was high as hell. Smoke coming out like the fog. Anyways she did about $4700 in damages. Front end, radiator, intercooler, brackets stuff like that. My questions is should I sell it and get a new one once it's repaired? I know I'm going to lose thousands but what is my best option? Any advice if it was you. I was thinking about trying to sell it to carmax.

I had $4200 repaired on my front end already. If it still drives fine ride it till the wheels fall off if you just plan to get another. Mine drives fine and you can't tell. I'm ocd and all...but I'm also cheap. It's just a Civic at then of the day (though a fantastic one).

Thanks for the advice but It's killing me that I'm going to lose so much money when I try to resell it, or trade it in. Just Pissed Off a little.

I get that but you only lose if you do trade. Did you plan to keep it long term? If so, I'd say just hang on to it. I had those same thoughts but I'm looking past the history since it drives and looks no different from new. Cheaper to keep 'er!

I do understand the anger and frustration. I just fixed the drawer that I ripped out and destroyed from my kitchen after my accident. It happens...anger subsides and life goes on. You still have a type r...just with a little character now. You two have been through some stuff now. That's my thought process.

You have insurance? File a “diminished value claim”, insurances won’t tell you about it you have to inquire about it. Basically they give you money based on the loss of value because of the repair.

yea i would check to see if you can file a diminished value claim.

Also did the airbags deploy?

I understand the frustration and deep down i would have died a little. At the same time though, i think selling a car when it gets into an accident is a little overkill. There's no guarantee that the new one will be accident-free for a length of time either. You'd have to ask yourself, do you plan on selling the CTR every time something happens to it?

What carmax offers you isn't immune to accidents either. They will price their offer accordingly (got an appraisal from them for my Lexus with 2 accidents from the prev owner).

This. Best option. If it's the other person's fault their insurance has to pay the residual value lost due to the accident. This can be inquired by a third party or your own insurance.

Sell it cuz of an accident would be def dumb af. You rather lose money cuz it been in an accident when accidents happen all the time even if you are the safest driver possible. You can't prevent others from driving stupid.

To be honest, I would have been spooked. I love my CTR but if ever in an accident, I'd probably bite the bullet, sell it for loss, and move on.

Not the smart thing to do financially but it would let me sleep better (I'd trade it in for a massive pickup truck)

1) I like the idea of not driving around in a damaged vehicle
2) If I can't be in something as fun as the CTR, I like the idea of being in the biggest car I can possibly be in to shield myself from other idiot drivers

Can you not sue someone who wrecks into you for the loss of the value of a vehicle? That seems like a no-brainer to me from a valuation standpoint. Your car was worth one amount before the crash caused by someone, and it is worth less now. There is no chance I wouldn't go after someone for loss of vehicle value should they wreck into my R.

Holy smokes, I had no idea. That's much better than having to sue someone. I'll keep this filed away in case I am ever crashed into.

Is there a limitation to how long you can file a diminished value claim after an accident happens? When I got rear ended like 5 months ago I didn’t know about such a claim and wondering if I could still claim it or not.

Won't hurt to ask. If you still got the insurance company info you can call them and ask.
Make up a lie and say your losing money on the car when I tried to sell it due to the accident. Is it possible I could be compensated for the diminished value. If yes get a quote.

How does one figure out the dollar value for this on such a new car. Also complicated by the fact that it's a 'in-demand' car..

I don't get the panic sell mentality due to an accident. its a car. It was damaged. it can be repaired and drive like there was never an issue. Perhaps you are letting the emotional side take over for now. I get that. Been hit several times over the years but the cars can be repaired and are just as safe as ever. If the plan was to "keep it forever" then do just that. If you were already planning to sell and this put you over the top? well, get it fixed, sell it and make sure you can absorb any financial fallout.

Plus, if you fix it, there is always a chance someone hits you and totals it. Then (assuming their fault) you can get a brand new one on someone else's dime.
