A Short Rant

When I got my CTR back in July, I decided to get a personalized license plate. This was my first time ever doing this. I never wanted to spend the extra money for them. Anyway when my tags come in, I go to the NC DMV to pay my taxes & put in for my personalized plate. I asked for " FK8TYPER " . Nothing stupid, nothing needing deciphering, just a straight forward description of the car that other Honda enthusiasts would understand.
Now for my rant. today I get a letter from the NC DMV telling me that my plate cannot be issued & I quote " because it may be considered in poor taste". What the hell??? I am so sick of this political correctness BS. So I call Raleigh. I explain to the lady ( very nicely) that the FK8 isn't in reference to the F-bomb but it is the Type R series designator. She is looking at my information & I point out that FK8 is in the VIN #. I then explain that Type R is the particular version of the Honda Civic. I explained that I'm 52, married, & have a soon to be 16 yr old son. That I was not trying to have the F-bomb on my plate. So now it is being taken to the manager for re-evaluation. What a crock of horse s%@t. Anyway that is the end of my rant.

I’m going to be really interested in what the “manager” decides. I’ve also been thinking about a personalized plate, and I was wondering if the DMV would have issues with the FK8 series designator - now I know.

If the DMV won’t issue the plate, maybe we can get them to tell everyone what the forbidden character strings are to save everyone’s time. If FK8 (or FK) is too much for the NC streets, what other character strings are too naughty for a car in NC?

Wow....I'm speechless but absolutely not surprised.....the MVA/DMV is never easy to deal with. I wish you the best on this!!

NC DMV is a bunch of idiots. I live here too and today they wouldntvcd take back my custom plate because my car was not insured after the 29th. Im like yes correct because i sold it. Here is my insurance transfer to new car. They said that wouldn't due i had to prove the other car was insured on the 29th. Im like your own records show it was canceled then. What exactly are you wanting me to prove? They sent me to my insurance company. Who said they had no clue what they wanted either..... long story short i still have the damn tag... but once i drop it ill let ya know if ya want lol. As for now apparently i have to keep.it because you know...idiots. but for now the type r on gt is sorta funny

Well I talked to Raleigh today and they shot me down in a blaze of glory. It really pisses me off with the PC police deemed a factory designation as inappropriate. Oh well. Now to figure out a new plate. Do you think " EFF K8 " would pass Any suggestions?
