I also meant to mention that my wheels are a few years old now. Back then they offer gray and now they are offered in black. The wheels look good because they are a typical knock-off of the Volk Racing TE37. I felt you couldn’t go wrong with that style on our cars. Especially for snow wheels.

Think I might run these this winter with some Nokain R2s

Nice! I couldn't find steelies that would fit.
I'd recommend doing some stark-white paint (unless your car is CW) just to really accent the fact that they're WINTER wheels....then feel free to beat them up!

Right on. Might spray paint 'em to give it that utilitarian winter look. With that exact hub measurement, seems they could be made specifically for Honda?

Seems that way! Post up pics when you get them on!

Sure, but...it'll be a few months. Got to get past replacing the stock setup with a better DD one first! ;p
Definitely! Not really looking forward to switching back to winter mode ...hopefully it's 5 or 6 months away.

Hey guys just wondering what the winter tires with steelie dimensions should be. I have a set off my GTi that are the same bolt pattern but want to see if it would fit my ctr. They are 16 inchers.

Using your thread so there aren't numerous of the same. New winter wheel/tire set came today and they look great. I haven't mounted them and won't until temps. start hovering around 50 at night (I live in WI). 18X8 5-120 ET45 SPARCO PODIO's with 235/45R18˜ CONTINENTAL VIKING CONTACT 7 Winter Tires (copy/paste, sorry about the caps). Taking a chance on these tires as I always used Blizzaks but they seemed to lack slush handling, which happens a lot in urban areas.

I actually like the look of the rim and wheel, more like the Titan set I will get next year for summer. They aren't far off from OEM look.

Looking slick, and also in Ottawa. Was actually browsing because I'm seriously considering grabbing a CTR after much consideration and was wondering how practical I can make it in our winters here..
Do you remember how much this setup ran you?

The Hakka R2's that I have are discontinued; Hakka R3's are about $425CAD each.
When I bought the OE FK2's, they were the only 19" option, but I wouldn't necessarily get those now - although this Brexit talk is improving the GBP:CAD exchange rate. The UK is the closest, least expensive source of those wheels. I paid either $400CAD or $500CAD each with shipping and duties, HST, etc. - can't remember which. TireRack has the Motegi MR924 and OZ Ultraleggera HLT in 19x8.5ET53, and Canadian places can get you 19x8ET53 Replika 196's for about $185CAD each. Unfortunately, while there are now 18" and 19" steel wheels available, and plenty of 18" alloy wheels, I don't know of any that are high-offset.

Thanks for the information it's greatly appreciated. Honestly thinking about going the affordable route for a winter set. I'm new to the car scene so I'll definitely have to do more research on wheels and tires and what everything means.

To be honest, what I have is probably one of the most expensive options out there. I used to be a rally driver so I am very particular about wheels and tires. Sizing is also an issue; a lot of winter tires in Type R sizes are "performance" winter tires; those are suitable for Europe and much of the USA, but not so much here.

In a few weeks, PMCTire will be releasing their 2019/20 winter tire ratings; historically their ratings have seemed to correlate well with Ottawa conditions. Here are last year's Top 5 results. Note that the comments in their videos are just as, or perhaps even more important, than the absolute ranking within the top 5. All tires are compromises; so listen for the features that are important for you.

I really appreciate the response and explanation.

Yeah I looked up what you ran and, definitely an expensive but desireable option.

Love the PMCTire link. I know we got absolutely bombarded last winter and thinking about owning a CTR it's somehow slipped my mind that Ottawa is a 4 season city. Honestly for a cheaper winter solution their prices aren't bad.

PMC has a great website and I like the ratings that they have for every tire - but pricing is generally best locally once you factor in mounting and balancing and the rebates that are going to start showing up in a few weeks. Also, if you have an issue, a local retailer is best. Costco generally beats everybody on price, and you don't have to be a member to buy tires there when you order from the website. Canadian Tire will price-match PMC and Costco - CTC on Carling is good. Andre at Slick Automotive Solutions has built a great rep in the local enthusiast community for careful work. He does all my mounting and balancing and the inevitable wheel repairs go through him. He can get good prices on wheels, and tires too - I got my Hakka's from him at prices lower than all the big websites.
