Is that a thing? I feel like it wouldn't last very long.

Only if you leave it under the sun unprotected, which I never do. I use either a small cloth over the stick or a window sunshade. But I usually find a place to park in shade.
The knob burning hands I never understood, and I think it's overblown really

Its bullshit really, Ive never had a car till now that had a shift knob that burned my hand. There is no shade to park in where I work, and if there was I wouldnt because I dont care for leaves/birdshit/sap on my car, and I used to leave a cloth over my shift knob but it didnt help much at all really. Lastly I hate tinted windows, never have had them except on one car and I had them removed (they were purple anyways).

In the end I have a $20 mugen knockoff CF knob in my car that doesnt get cold or hot, its great.

Ever have any luck with this? I'd be really interested in one too... here's something similar I found for a Mazda 3: https://www.autointeriortechnic.com/product-page/13-16-mazda-3-shift-boot-mt (discontinued now)

I've had alcantara phone cases (https://www.amazon.com/Galaxy-Genuine-Samsung-Alcantara-Cover/dp/B01N3AQ9QR) and skins (https://www.slickwraps.com/alcantara-series-wraps-for-galaxy-s8.html) in the past that held up pretty well, as long as you keep your hands reasonably clean. Makes excellent grip/traction in your hand or sitting on a pant leg or something.

And alcantara/ultrasuede/microsuede are actually very easy to clean (it's just plastic): a little soapy warm warm water, then "lift" the fibers with a soft brush or something if needed.

alcantara is a fancy name for synthetic suede, aka fake plastic suede. Feels very similar, but it is FAAAR more durable. Suede is notoriously easy to ruin even with just a small amount of touching. Lots of upscale car interiors use alcantara.

I had an all aluminum knob in my old Talon. That freaking thing would cook on summer days. It's what got me into using sun screens and I always use them now. Keeps the dash nice too.

I don't recommend an alacantara knob. I used to have a Sparco steering wheel on my old Talon that had blue alacantara inserts. This is what it looked like after a year.

Not to thread jack but HOW are so many people whining about the shift knob burning their hand? I park my car in direct sun every day and it's been well over 90 many of those days, and yes the shift knob gets damn warm but who cares? Also try crackling your windows and making sure the sunroof visor is closed. I dunno, but I've never had a problem.

I want that knob so bad. IMO the best shift knob you can add if you like keeping OEM quality and look

Just want to point out that Alcantara will wear and eventually turn into a gunky, hard and plasticy feeling... Seats and door/dash trims are fine, but I don't get why all these companies love putting alcantara steering wheels and shift knobs in their $100k+ cars... it all turns to shit in a year or two.
