Hey there guys!
I just realized that my front brakes started making these grinding noises when you’re trying to slow down. Car currently only have 700 miles on it. Bought it brand new about a month ago.
I brought it back to my dealer, and he said that they “checked the car along with a couple of other 2019 Civic's and they all make the slight grinding sound when applying the brakes. The noise is coming from the brake calipers, the sound is normal, as the calipers are compressing the brakes in order for the vehicle to stop”. Is this true? I have never heard this grinding noise for the one month that I’ve own this car up till yesterday.

Hey! Thank you for the reply. I have a 2019 EX. I get the soft grinding sound when I’m driving and when reversing too. So I wanted to check if it’s normal considering I’ve only had the car for a month and I’ve never heard that grinding up till yesterday.

I’ve had mine for about 6 months. Everything been great with the car except the brakes sound.

I had similar issues. Turns out my rear calipers were sticking and caused damage to the rotors. I needed to pay out of pocket $200 last month to get it fixed so my car would pass state inspection since Honda claims brakes are wear and tear items. 2017 Hatchback with 25,600 now that I bought new myself in 2017.

I brought my car in to the service center and this was what the service specialist sent me "we checked the car along with a couple of other 2019 civic's and they all make the slight grinding sound when applying the brakes. The noise is coming from the brake calipers, the sound is normal, as the calipers are compressing the brakes in order for the vehicle to stop." He also mentioned that "it should always happen at first when the brake calipers engage".
What is weird to me is that the prior month before, not once did I hear this grinding noise.

I'm afraid of having this happen to me, since brakes are not covered under Honda Care since like you mentioned, its considered wear and tear. But every time I bring my car in, the technicians always say its normal and that nothing is wrong. Which makes me wonder to myself, are new Honda's really suppose to be making all these ticking and grinding noise.

mine made a slight grinding sound when new but it went away after maybe 5K miles
when the brakes are cool stick your finger past the wheel and with your fingertip feel the surface of the rotor. If it's smooth and shiny and slick then your brakes are probably OK. If there's a problem then the rotor surface will be damaged, probably with deep gouges in it which will be easy to feel with the fingertip.
