Sup everyone.

Car is an 18' Civic Type-R

About two weeks ago I noticed I hear a clunking noise whenever I turn the wheel and go over an imperfection on the road, speed bump or anything along those lines. I only hear it on the driver front. I do have Swift springs installed, I highly doubt it has anything to do with it. I was told by a gentleman directly from Swift that I did not need to cut them. So, to be honest I eliminated that option. I took it to Honda, after test driving my car and doing whatever else they did, I was told I had to pay the diagnostic issue because my car has a lowering kit on it, so whatever.

In addition, I have done some research and some have posted that the steering rack was as issue? Issue with a tie rod heating up after driving for a bit. However, I hear the noise at cold or operating temperature. Really aiming towards something with steering because I can go over a speed bump in a straight line and nothing. Turn the wheel a bit while trying to reverse at low speed for example and clunk, I hear it. Others have said that the top nut of the spring/strut had to be torqued down, and that we did not do.

What I am looking to do is removing the strut/spring combo and torquing everything down to spec. I jacked it up, took a look, felt around and nothing seems out of the norm.

Any other recommendations from fellow members?

Thanks for reading and helping.

I am getting a similar noise and I didnt install springs. I just removed the shock assemblies from the wheel well to work on the car. Put them back in and i hear clunks as well.

I have similar issue, but I don't hear it so much on going on speed bumps or anything, mostly going on an incline. But I do hear it when turning up my driveway, and my wheel goes over the front gate track. I swapped out my stock suspension with a new set of coilovers, and I still hear the clunking/popping noise . I was hoping it was that my front driver's strut was messed up, but I guess it wasn't.
1. I noticed it only occurs when the car is in gear, I've heard it from from 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear, but 1st gear is more noticeable. I've tired neutraling it with enough momentum uphill to see if I hear any of the sounds, but I didn't.
2. It usually occurs when going up hills or sidewalk entrances where there's a slight inclination and unevenness. I was going up a windy road up hill in 3rd gear and heard it.
3. Usually only occurs when car is turning. I've heard it when I was going straight up a hill after centering my steering wheel when turning, but was in 1st gear.
4. Easier to reproduce when letting off the clutch (about half way) at the same time as turning and going uphill.

I plan to take it to the dealer before my warranty expires, noise seem to be progressively more noticeable over the years. Just hope they don't make a big deal about having coilovers and think that's the problem because it was an issue before swapping out the suspension.

Check your tophat nut on your struts. This is likely the issue. You will need a 17mm socket and an impact wrench. Tighten it until it won't go any more. If you can't get it to tighten and the shaft just keeps spinning, put your weight straight down on it and it should start to go if you're pushing down hard enough.

Have you gotten this fixed or sent to the dealer? Really interested in knowing but most likely I feel like it's the strut nut that needs to be torqued down

No, not yet, but I will be going to have it checked out hopefully in the next month or so since my warranty is expiring in Nov. The noise seemed to have plateaued at it's current stage, hasn't gotten any worse/louder like it progressively did the previous years. Doesn't seem to affect the driveability of the car though.

Go back and tighten your front sway link nuts that connects to the struts and the sway bar.

Those are the most common unwanted squeaking / clunking noise after changing out the front struts / springs / sway bar... that requires the sway link to detach. Most of the time we think it is super tighten but it’s not.

i had this problem before.I called swift and asked for a solution about the clunking noise .they didnt have any one piece of advice still blamed me on my install. said I installed it reversed. I took it off and tried switching it from left to right and vice versa but there was no way it can be reversed there is only one way it can go in. found a solution from other forums and pic below is exactly what i did. tein spring silencer.
