Anyone know if there’s a bare bones key for the civic sport hatch?

Coming from a Tacoma that didn’t have power locks or windows, I don’t really like the bulky key fob. Glad I don’t have push start. Are there any normal keys I can get made without all the extra jazz? Appreciate the help. Tried calling my local Honda parts but they blow.

PS didn’t know where to put this thread so just tossed it in the general section.

There's a normal key in the key fob. Slide the lever on the back and pull the key ring.

The Sport does not have this. It has a normal key with an integrated door lock fob. What the OP is asking for is just a plain key, minus the electronics.

The answer is no. The theft deterrent electronics are in the fob. There is a chip in there that has to be detected by a component in the key cylinder in order to allow the car to start.

If you don't have Sport or LX then you are out of luck.

Even the Sport and LX (Heck! Even the lowly Canadian DX Sedan) has the antitheft chip... embedded in the remote part of the key. So no luck at all, here.

I had to get a new key for my bottom of the line LX and the dealer wanted 180 at first but after talking to the guy a little when they came to me with the bill it was only 90.

So you guys are saying I can't make a cheap copy of my key and expect it to start my car? I only got 1 car key when I bought my car used...was thinking about getting another made as a backup. It really won't work?!?!

Get a key from eBay and have it cut and then programmed at the dealer.

The spare key for my car (‘17 LX) is a “valet key” which doesn’t have any of the extras buttons, it’s just the key.
