Talked to the shops and they also said the hood needed to be replaced. Did you get an OEM hood? How did the paint job/blending come out for you?
I ended up at a shop that is under the same ownership as a Honda/Acura dealer across the street from them and they mostly do Honda work. OEM hood, paint matched beautifully. The alignment is ever-so-slightly off which drives me crazy, but my gf can't even see it and says I'm crazy so I doubt it will effect resale.

*Edit: I also considered CF but just didn't want the hassle with maintenance. I see too many old Hondas that look like they're in good shape except for some CF bits that look like they've aged 20 years more than the rest of the car.

If a mechanic or someone recognizes that the hood is repainted they can easily find out. It shouldn't affect resale value but they can ask for more discount

Hey all,

I was driving back from work today and what looked like a huge mud flap from a truck ended flying in the air and slamming my hood and bumper leaving a huge dent in my hood and some scuff marks on my front bumper. I currently have a $500 deductible with my insurance. Not sure if they would replace the hood or PDR it and make it look like crap. Was wondering if it might be better to replace with a carbon fiber hood, however, I have no experience carbon fiber hoods. How compatible/easy are the hood to install?

I Purchased A Seibon hood and it was exact fit. Some have not been as lucky but from what I have seen they will send you a new one if it is really bad. That being said I have a stock hood (black) from my hatchback should you want to make a trip to RI.

Cheers

I was talking about the alignment of the hood.

Are carbon fiber hoods less difficult to maintain if they are properly painted? I realize that would negate the aesthetic effect of the carbon-fiber "look", but the weight savings benefits would still be there, not to mention the cool vent styling if one uses those models which have extra vents molded into the design.
I've been thinking of this as well

This is my biggest fear of the CF hood especially as a daily. What would be the best way to maintain them? Would a clear bra or some sealant help or are they just doomed to the sun?
a Clear coat on the outside is more UV resistant than whatever gel coat they use.

That I do not know. I decided against going carbon after seeing the long term issues. Maybe talk to Seibon, see what they say?

I ended up pulling the trigger on the Seibon TR Style carbon fiber hood. I'm going to immediately cover in ceramic coating. I'll post an update once its on.

Maybe try to find someone that will clear coat it properly beforehand then apply ceramic coating if its cheap enough? Just imo.

Did you speak with Seibon verifying that ceramic coating would be enough? If that's the case, I'd get one too most likely

According to the description on Seibon they cover the hood with a clear coat already.

So I ended up installing the hood. Few things that annoyed me...

While the hood seemed to fit perfectly you will still need to engineer some sort of way to mount the washer fluid sprayers. On the original hood they clip in and manage to stay in since the aluminum hood is way thinner. Seibon pre-drilled some half-assed holes for the sprayers, but they were too small and uneven. I had to file down holes out a bit more and somehow wedge them in. Even then they were a bit loose so I used some 3M tape to keep them in place. You will also need to drill out additional holes for the hoses so that you can connect them to the sprayers. There are also no holes to reinstall the hose clips.

If you wish to transfer over the heat shield you will also need to drill additional holes and find a way to secure the shield. The original hood had clips and there is no room to drill holes for clips on the CF hood. Siebon mentions in the instructions that it is strongly recommended to have the heat shield, but they don't provide a means to install it.

The hood is a big difficult to close, I have to used quite a bit of pressure to close it. I purchased the "required" hood pins, but I think I'll be holding off on installing those for now.

The thing tends to be a dust and finger print magnet. Tell your friend to not touch it! lol. Luckily I applied 3 coats of ceramic coating, so we will see how that works.

Overall I am pleased with the look of the hood, however, I am a bit disappointed that for the price the hood isn't really a "direct" fit and you will need to re-engineer a few things to make it work for you. Here is the installed product:

That is likely from it being black/almost black. I love my black civic but it is "dirty" as soon as I am done cleaning it.
