Hey all,

I was driving back from work today and what looked like a huge mud flap from a truck ended flying in the air and slamming my hood and bumper leaving a huge dent in my hood and some scuff marks on my front bumper. I currently have a $500 deductible with my insurance. Not sure if they would replace the hood or PDR it and make it look like crap. Was wondering if it might be better to replace with a carbon fiber hood, however, I have no experience carbon fiber hoods. How compatible/easy are the hood to install?

They are easy to install but require more upkeep to keep looking good. You might get lucky on CL, etc. looking for a replacement hood in MSM.

It might be covered under the "comprehensive" category rather than collision. Like a hit-and-run or a deer strike, it isn't your fault. The deductibles might be different.

That sucks, to bad you couldnt track down the truck it came off of and make them or their insurance pay for it.

Damn! Finding a quality hood + paint would probably be much more than your deductible. I’d go the insurance route. Comprehensive claims don’t count against you (as far as I know).

I like the look of the carbon fiber hoods from Seibon with the vents, however, living in NJ with rain and snow I am not sure that's the best idea. Anyone know if the aftermarket hoods come with rain guards?

I had something similar happen last year resulting in nearly identical damage. I talked to half a dozen shops in my area who all seemed optimistic about repairing until they saw all the curving angles on this hood and then immediately said no chance, just replace it and be done. Insurance seemed to agree.

Civics are supper common. Maybe you could find a matching hood at the scrap yard?
I may try doing this. Although I did this for my old Civic for a fender that got damaged. Was the same exact color code, part number, etc. However it was ever so slightly a lighter shade then the rest of the car due to sun wear. Wasn't that noticeable, but bothered the hell out of me lol.

Still waiting to see what my insurance says.

Talked to the shops and they also said the hood needed to be replaced. Did you get an OEM hood? How did the paint job/blending come out for you?

It actually doesn’t look to bad, as long as it still functions you might just think about keeping it as a scar and try not look at it that often lol.

I just know with my previous luck usually with windshields is as soon as I replace or fix a chip etc another rock or something hits the brand new screen and creates a worse crack or chip etc.

Now if you don’t care about money that’s a great excuse for a CF hood!

I was going to go Seibon CF hood also...but have heard horror stories of them needing tons of work to keep looking nice...or they fade and look like poop. The one I saw was only a year or year and a half old and it looked horrid

Are carbon fiber hoods less difficult to maintain if they are properly painted? I realize that would negate the aesthetic effect of the carbon-fiber "look", but the weight savings benefits would still be there, not to mention the cool vent styling if one uses those models which have extra vents molded into the design.

This is my biggest fear of the CF hood especially as a daily. What would be the best way to maintain them? Would a clear bra or some sealant help or are they just doomed to the sun?
