My Civic is approaching 1 year.
It only has 990 miles on it.
Is there a limit where the break in oil needs to be replaced at 12 months?
Is there any other service due at 12 months of ownership?

Can't put some purposeful miles on it just to do a proper break in and get the factory fill out?

Most of your first services should really be more so mileage based. I suggest to new owners at my dealership all the time to get out and enjoy some time in the new car and by extension gives it proper run in time. When you get a fresh built anything right off of the delivery truck it's just a wise move to get at least 2k miles of good use fairly quickly. You end up driving around longer but this is needed to get everything up to temperature for an extended time. Shakes any immediate problems out early which gets them taken care of quicker.

The car normally gets used for 50 to 200 mile trips. I just don't make many. Probably one a month.

My old Cheyenne pickup has been much easier on my back for short trips.

I'm just not sure that 1,000 miles is enough for the break in oil.

You are supposed to change the oil at least once a year.
If you don't, your warranty is void.

Normally an oil change is the only service you need after a year.

I agree completely. You'll just have to use your best judgement. This is where a slightly more aggressive run in works well.

And the above poster is right technically. I haven't seen that ever be a scenario myself unless it's double the time recommended.

Definitely needs to be considered.

Only other thing until 15k is a rotate (2 ideally) and that is definitely mileage based. Cabin and engine filters around 15. Start over until the 30k.

One other thing.

If you have very low mileage when you bring the car in for an oil change, check how clean the oil is before and immediately after the oil change (before you even start it up). It is not unheard of for the mechanics to look at the odometer and decide that the oil doesn't need to be changed because it doesn't have many miles on it. Yet, they tell you that they did change the oil and charge you for it. The oil should be dark before the oil change (even with only 1,000 miles) and golden clear after.

Thank you PowerPerLiter.

The Civic gets a Meguiar's Ultimate Waterless Wash & Wax almost every time it is driven, and then Ultimate Fast Finish sealant. It stays protected in the garage.
The Cheyenne is not expected to be around long, so the Civic will see more service in the next few months.

It stays in garage with the fun truck. Not a Turbo Buick, yet a 50 year old A body with a roots on top of a small block.

I will watch them change it and check it too. Should look like light honey.
