So at 15k miles I developed a grinding noise coming from the front left wheel when going straight and turning left. At first I thought it was pads but when I was changing them I spun the hub and you could hear the noise clearly coming from the bearing. A little disappointed to be honest. Car has around 15k miles and is a 2018. Granted this car has been put to the test this year with six track days under its belt and being tuned and lowered. Which I read can help these bearings dig their own grave. How normal is it for these bearings to go bad??

I can't say that I've heard of a case of the wheel bearings going on a Civic X yet. Do you have a proper alignment and camber kit?

I would imagine that having the car modified the way you do there are plenty of short lives on mechanics in your future. Good luck to you.

I'm having the same issue (minus the track days)... Driver's side Wheel Bearing appears to be failing... getting that metal on metal grinding noise when turning left...

I'm also aligned with no camber kit dropped on Skunk2 springs... Hoping to find a mod-friendly dealer that might not give me a hard time about getting it replaced under warranty... we'll see... :dunno:

Bearings or driveaxle/half shaft?

If the noise is constant and a humming noise and hums quicker as speed increases its your bearing.

If its only when you turn and it clonks, its your driveaxle.

The wheel bearing could have failed due to the wrong torque spec on the axle nut, if it was removed during the spring install.

It's highly unlikely the -1 degree of camber caused the wheel bearing to fail already.

This is what I was thinking.

Are you sure you mean your bearing? As in wheel bearing? I have never heard of a Honda wheel bearing failing in the entire lifespan of any of their cars. More likely you mean the CV joint based on the symptoms, which was probably inadvertently pulled apart in the course of the modification installs. I have pulled them apart accidentally when trying to get lower ball joint apart and shaft from the hub. They always went back together for me with no issues but I know you're "not supposed" to do it.. so something about it potentially damages them when done.

This happen to me at around 25k miles. The story goes... I had tein flex coil overs no alignment no camber kit, lowered for about 5k miles then I tried to get an alignment and my car literally threw every dash code.(still don’t know what happened) So I took off my coil overs and sent it to the dealership to get the codes cleared. FIXED. Then stayed stock after that...After another 10k miles I experienced an aggressive humming noise from the front left wheel. Took it back and they confirmed it was a bad wheel bearing. I don’t think it was a lowering thing. Must be a rare issue.

I would imagine its the heat caused by track days. Especially the left front since most road courses have right turns which push all those forces (and heat) to the drivers side. They are consumables when it becomes a track use vehicle. On an non modded street car, they would likely "last a lifetime".

Good luck with that. Once they see you're lowered, they'll immediately use that to deny the warranty work.
