So I have used it for a few days now and I don’t think it’s worth it.

I believe it’s some sort of emulation of CarPlay through the application.

There is a little bit of lag and the connection doesn’t hold up for a long time.

Connecting it is cumbersome because it requires a WiFi connection and Bluetooth connection.

I’ve had a few drops of connection and times where it just wouldn’t connect.

But other than that it definitely works wirelessly and all apps work on CarPlay. I just can not justify using it over just connecting my phone.

Thanks for the update, and the realistic appraisal.

I'd have to agree after my first few days of use.

I've not had major connectivity woes, but its not been seamless either -- most of the time the phone connects itself without user input, but only after a waiting period and two loading screens. Like my initial posting said, it -does- do what it claims and allow for wired Carplay functionality. Audio interruptions (like a Waze direction) coming from the wireless Carplay stops other audio sources (like Sat Radio) without resuming. Incoming calls defaults to the built-in phone app on the headunit instead of the Phone app in Carplay. Its funky, but it does work.

My biggest gripe: if the phone isn't connected to the dongle, the app/service running on the headunit will refresh the display every 15secs or so....this is distracting, annoying, and interrupts running apps (like TunerView for Ktuner users). I haven't tried tweaking the settings too much or tried an app reinstall just yet, but I suspect it won't make a difference... my symptoms seem to be from poor handling of dongle detection (its refreshing the entire system just to see if a new device was connected).

All of that being said: there was an update released for the dongle firmware already (I think the date on the release was 6/20). I can't say it fixed any issues for me personally, but its clearly still being worked-on from a software perspective so there's hope. I don't plan to return mine, but I'd strongly hesitate to recommend it in current form.

Heads up as others have said before you can not install the APK on the head-unit without Honda Hack. I installed it today no problem. Just waiting on the device to finally ship.
How did you install the APK without Honda Hack. I can’t for the life of me find an install file and do you do it through the car browser like Honda hack?

You literally quoted someone saying that Honda hack is required lol

I took it to mean that he did it without Honda hack. Even so, there still isn’t anything that describes how to do it, is it an Android app?

My CarPlay wasn’t working the other day, tried different phones, different cables, same thing... ended up rebooting the unit (holding down on the volume knob for 20 seconds) and it fixed the issue.
Does that wipe things like presets?

It'd be awesome if the next gen. Civic came with built in wireless Android Auto + Apple CarPlay, AND a wireless charger for your phone.
Wireless charger is easy to do though. I just put a qi charger in the little tray and a mat on top of it

I was hoping this would work better(faster, and without lag)... So this is a no buy?

Because I'm getting a Civic which has Wireless Charging so I was hoping to get a wireless adapter, but after reading all the posts here I don't think this one is for me, but the reviews on Amazon are mostly positive, so I don't know what to think...

PS. Is there a chance that the 2020 refreshed Civic will have Wirelles CarPlay out of the box?

I’ve found the connection, stability, and visual quality were -vastly- improved with the most recent round of app and dongle updates. Whether it’s $90 good is still too subjective to call, but I was pleasantly surprised after updating (and kinda bummed beforehand).

Oh that's great then! Once I get my car in November (hopefully, because I'm guessing brexit will affect the export of my car :p) I'll buy the dongle and try it, 90€ doesn't seem expensive.

PS. Do I have to root my car's headunit? Or will I be able to install the apk like it's described on the dongle webpage?

Honda Hack is required to install the APK onto the head unit. You use a flash drive with the APK on the flash drive and connect it to your car. Then use the app installer to install the APK.
