Tranmissions, transfer cases, and ratios arent really my expertise, so this might be a dumb question. Sorry.

With the gear ratio change for the 2020 Si, is it really that much of a change to the drive train in a manual transmission setup? I hear "quicker acceleration" and "less MPG" across the board but isnt this ultimately dependent on the driver and when they choose to switch gears? That's the point of a manual, right? Could i possibly negate the changes with my driving style? Sorry once again for possibly missing the point on this hahaha

Thanks!

I believe the ratio was shortened so at any given speed, the rpms will be higher in the 2020 as compared to ours in each gear. So, less mpg and probably more aggravating at highway speed. Cause you to reach for the the shift to 7th.

I have often wished for a longer 6th gear. Engine cruises along nice at 2k.

The less mpg hypothesis comes from the new Millage rating from EPA that recently comes out. Maybe it’a because of the new gearing (which makes sense) or of a new way to calculate the mpg since the other trim of civic also show less mpg this year from what I heard

I wonder if it improves or makes worse the 1-2 shift ... To me that is way more important than anything else. I just hit 2000 miles and hope it improves, but at this point I have stopped engine breaking from 2-1 just so I don't have to try to tweak it in there. I find this to be incredibly frustrating. I am basically shifting into neural so I can delay or like in baseball " double clutch" a smooth shift to second gear. Honestly I have aniexity that is nearly PTSD for the 1-2 shift. The clunk is way worse as a down shift engine break so I am learning how to approach a red light in third gear. Now as far as a gear tweak does this mean you spend MORE or LESS time in the 1-2 shift?

Engine breaking has it's very specific applications, I get it. But I would much rather replace my brake pads than a clutch, not giving unnecessary wear to a turbo'd engine.

Hopefully reviews start trickling out SOON. Giving some real world applications surrounding cruising speeds, RPMs, and MPGs. Since it's one of the few changes for 2020, I'm sure everyone is gonna put it to the test.

80-85mph, below 2.5K rpm would be *chef kiss*

Granted there are the haves and have nots. I am not interested in the 2020 change and glad I got in before the changes. That aside I am assuming that EVERYONE engine breaks? Is that not true? As I go up I go down ... 6 to 5 5 to 4 4 to 3 and lastly 3 to 2. Do folks drive the Si into random neutral gear and approach a red light? Five to neural? Four to neutral?

I love my 19. I have to admit the refresh is dope. LEDs, honda sensing, engine sound tech thing, new front vents, black rims, red in the seats, red dash trim and shorter gear ratios. I'd gladly swap the same exact color/coupe in for the 20 real quick.

Oh my ... I must be old ... LOL ... All that glitters is not gold. Honda refused to offer the tenth gen in automatic trim to stay true to "sport injected". Very nice!!! Now we want to enjoy enhanced fake vents and audio stereo pumped rumble coupled with some bright lights and electronics? I feel quite disconnected from the group.

I usually rev match all the way down as I slowly approach redlight. If its sudden I either just go into neutral or slow all the way down then heel toe to 2nd in case it goes green.

For the price the car is loaded w tech. Embrace it! Personally I think the car sounds nice stock. Has a nice little rumble down low and then stays pretty quiet in boost. I use to have full exhausts and CAI intakes on my vtecs. After a while I began to despise all the noise. Sounded like you're racing just leaving a light a long side a minivan..lolz

I currently have about 3000 miles on my 2019 Si and I dont know if it just broke in or if it is because of the solid shifter bushings I put in it, but I dont notice any clunk into second anymore. It actually feels buttery smooth. I also shift into second before the rpms hit 2000. When I first bought the car it was noticeable but it has since disappeared.

I usually down shift to 4th if I am in a higher gear, coast/engine break/ light brake pedal down to about 900 rpm, about 15mph, shift to neutral, and then brake all the way to 0mph from there.

The car almost sounds like nothing stock, it is way too quiet. I did a muffler delete and it made it sound 100x better.
