I found this on eBay it's a great comparison between the standard and Si/CR-V turbo.

Stock Civic Turbo (on the left):

  • Compressor Wheel - Split 6 Blade with 39.1mm Inducer and 46.0mm Exducer
  • Turbine Wheel - 11 Blade with 37.1mm Inducer and 32.3mm Exducer
  • OEM P/N 18900-5AA-A01
  • MHI P/N 49373-07011
CRV/Si Turbo (on the right):
  • Compressor Wheel - Split 6 Blade with 39.1mm Inducer and 46.0mm Exducer
  • Turbine Wheel - 9 blade with 37.1mm Inducer and 33.3mm Exducer
  • OEM P/N 18900-5PA-A01
  • MHI P/N 49373-07100
The TD025 turbo is used for the 1.5 turbo engine. The CRV/Si engine uses a 1 MM larger, 9 blade turbine
which reduces exhaust back pressure allowing it to make more HP at a higher RPM.

Guess what this is? Read your title, then look at the graph.

This is why I have been looking for an Si turbocharger. I don't have to compromise on power because there are gains on both the lowend AND the topend. And the topend doesn't fall off like the non-Si. This is why I don't want a 27Won or PRL. They are a compromise with a larger gain up top with large losses on the bottom. I'll have gains everywhere. An no losses! No compromises! For 1/4th the price of new 27Won. :)

This is all for now. I just like to throw out teasers. :p
Si Turbo vs Non-Si Turbo.jpg

Differences between the Si and Non-Si level trims, from the Honda Civic Si wikipedia page:

  • engine output increased to 205 HP @ 5,700 RPM (SAE net) and 192 lb-ft torque @ 2,100-5,000 RPM (SAE net)
  • higher maximum boost pressure (20.3 vs. 16.5 PSI)
  • lower compression ratio (10.3:1 vs. 10.6:1)
  • higher-capacity MHI TD025 turbocharger (9-vane vs. 11-vane)
Computed horsepower from Civic Si 10.3 compression ratio going to 10.6 compresion ratio goes up from 205hp to 207hp (a 1% change). From HERE!

So.....since the Si already is running higher boost than my car stock and the larger turbo, raising my boost pressure with the Si turbo should get me to 207hp with no other changes.
So, I am going to guesstimate going from 174hp to 207hp after raising my boost and adding the Si turbocharger, we should be around +33hp

^^Just doing my homework and playing with numbers to see if things make sense and are matching up. Funny this is right in line with the Dyno number delta difference of +32hp. Nothing to see here folks. Carry on! Just posting this so I can reference it for later.

I think i'm the running one of two vitviper turbos. Yet to redyno but my initial pull was 260whp and 255tq. Since then i've swapped to the si turbo inlet pipe, prl cobra cai with race maf, and gotten new revisions from drob. I'm estimating 290whp @ 26psi. IMO if you're going to spend the money, just go 27won. The amount of time and money to swap in an si turbo isn't worth it. I'm perfectly happy with the vitviper for now but mainly because it pulls power all the way to redline vs the stock si turbo falls off around 5500. Someone correct me if i'm wrong. I've already started collecting parts for my engine build and new turbo with 27won or prl kit with gtx2620 gen 2. If your goal is to maintain the stock electronic boost controller, go 27won. You can get a tune to safely run it without blowing any internals up (still always a chance depending on how you drive). If you want big power, build your engine and go for a bigger turbo like in the kit PRL offers.

PRL is working on updating their turbo kits to utilize the stock electronic wastegate.
However, from what I've seen so far, I would not go this route without a built motor as you stated.
For those planning on staying stock block, I would recommend a 27Won W1.

@imcrspy I really appreciate your input. I have to ask you though.....where did you dyno your car at? Was it at Innovative Motorsports?

Just was going over an old thread about the Vit Viper drop-in turbo. HERE
In it, he stated this
We're replacing the compressor wheel with a larger billet unit and machining the compressor housing to fit the larger wheel. The Si/CRV turbo has a slightly larger TURBINE (exhaust) wheel with less fins than the "base" 1.5 turbo which reduces some exhaust pressure at higher boost levels (less exhaust pressure = more power).
So this is just me chasing more hp/tq, on the topend. How much 'more' is....is the exciting part.

Did my dyno runs at R&D in gardena but DRob tuned my car. Have yet to go back and do another pull but plan to next month.

You should make a lot more and you got a steal on that turbo lol ;). Saved you $$$ to buy an "intercooler kit"

@imcrspy I figured there was a point in time where you had the Si turbo installed but was running on your Non-Si turbo tune.......before you had a custom tune performed for the Si turbo. How did your car run with the Non-Si tune with the Si turbo? Honestly, I'm not expecting any big difference since the only difference is the hot side blades but figured I'd ask just in case you experienced something that people should be aware of. I'm asking about the good, the bad and anything in between that you noticed after you installed it but before you got tuned for it.

And again, I really don't expect much difference but I may be missing something. Thanks!

DRob sent me a base map so that I could run the car with the new turbo. The only time I ever ran an OTS map was when I was stock. I put my turbo, dp, intercooler, and intake on all at the same time. I did e85, the si turbo inlet pipe, and prl intake later. Each time I did anything DRob sent me a new map. Regardless of what you do, do yourself a favor and at least send DRob an email.

Since this popped out just gonna plug my stock si turbo is for sale, just the turbo, not the inlet pipe, you're on your own there until 27WON releases their inlet pipe but that's not that soon either
