I have a 2018 Civic Touring. Had my car broken into the other day, but the alarm never went off. Any ideas how? Looking at the car, there was no exterior damage, but the driver "arm rest" was torn off. The lights must've turned on as I always leave them on auto and they were turned off. Again, no car alarm noises went off as far as anyone could tell. Maintenance guys think one of those inflatable door cracker was used to open the door and then a hook used to open it. Again, I couldn't find any exterior evidence of damaged besides the smudge on the door panel.

I'm not sure how this was done. But I did notice that, on my '18 LX, if I use the key to mechanically unlock the door (no unlock button); the alarm indicator in the cluster will flash. The Manuel says that, if the trunk or hood is opened after doing this, the alarm will sound. Putting the key into the ignition (shaking hands with the immobilizer) will defeat this. Pressing the unlock button on the key will turn this off also. I do not have a fob or smart entry. So I don't know if this even applies to your situation. But I'm just throwing this on the pile for everyone's consideration.

Sorry that happened.

Update: I went back and tested it. Rolled down the window and walked away from the car, it locked. I put the key down, went back and opened the door through an open window and the alarm went off so it's definitely working. I wonder if there's something out there that allows them to bypass the door lock... it's a mystery.

Also, ty for the condolences.

They could have kept the door pin depressed.

Do you keep your keyfob close to your house door? There's been breakins and thefts of cars where a thief will keep a signal booster near your door and amplify the signal from the fob. The car then thinks the key is nearby and will respond to someone just opening the door.

Hmm not really, it's prob around 20-30 ft away from the car in the middle of the apartment but i dunno if that's far enough.

Unfortunate incidents like these, sorry to hear you were victimized. This is a reminder for me to not keep valuables in the car. I keep my work uniform and equipment in the trunk, I'll have to start bringing that inside the house with me.

My other car has the option to disable the passive keyless entry system, which I did. I have to push the fob button to unlock the door but no big deal since I need a free hand to open the door anyway. But Honda does not offer this option. Bummer.

I've read that Tesla updated their software to let owners also disable this function.

Makes me glad I have a garage. But ya, that boost attack is a real PITA and if I didn't have a garage, I would be very afraid of these keyless units and would indeed be putting my fobs in a Faraday box when they are at home.
