Got my car 2-3 weeks ago and the policy went up $177.00, they told me the were not able to locate my VIN# and put the car in by the Value. Anyone having problems with the insurance company not being able to find the car? Mine was assembled 05-16

What insurance company are you using? Big ones like Progressive, Allied, Geico, State Farm, Allstate all had no problems.

None here. I got my Civic insured by Geico over the phone while sitting at the finance manager's desk. Recently, I went shopping around and found State Farm had a way better rate and switched to them over the phone. They had my VIN in their database already.

I have Kemper Direct, used to be Unitrin. My car is a Coupe not sure if that's an issue, since it's still relatively new.

That may be your issue - is that a smaller insurance company, I've never heard of it.

I already had the VIN & quote pre-loaded into the Geico app, confirmed it right before I drove off the lot and I was good to go. Took literally a minute.

I've switched companies since I bought the car in March. I was originally with State Farm, but switched to BelairDirect. Didn't have problems with either company with the VIN number, which at the time was only a little over a month old. I would just switch to another company. There's plenty of insurance companies around

I originally requested a quote from esurance.com (backed by Allstate) over the phone. Before I pulled the trigger, out of curiosity I walked into a local State Farm Insurance office and received a much lower premium for better coverage. It was explained to me that while online insurance may be less selective about who they insure, you're going to pay a higher premium to cover the more at risk policy holders that a more selective insurance company may not have insured. I'm not sure if that's true. I also felt better about having a physical insurance office I can walk into and an agent I can see face to face. That's just me.

I have progressive. No issues except it took the computer about 10 extra minutes to accept my vin # for my Coupe. No big deal, they had coffee. :D

I will check back with them in about 2 weeks, they said they're researching why they can't find the VIN#

I had a similar problem with my coupe. It didn't exist in my insurer's data base so the owner of the agency had to work her magic to make my insurance happen. It came out to be about $10 more that the 2011 Honda Fit I traded.

Did you know what she did? Beside looking up the VIN#?

Not exactly, she was able to manually give me my rate by, from my understanding basing it off of the new sedan and the previous civic coupe model. She was great, her assistant couldn't make it happen since she couldn't automatically add it from the system.

Mine with progressive, I haven't faced any issue. However, mine insurance premium was increased, when my dealer changed from the wrongly entered 2.0 model VIN to 1.5T model VIN.
