Just my opinion here. As a novice to these things I picked hondata. I was looking for something very simple and straightforward. I dialed in my tune and that's where it stays. Having prebuilt tunes for my Cai was also a factor.

On the fly switching is great, but I would never use. Lcd screen would be great, but I would never use. (I tuned and shoved flashpro into the glovebox).

I see a lots of people mentioning customer service, however for a user like me there is no need. I ordered, used it and really that's it. There is nothing I need service for.

I didn't want the over the top price if buying a tuner then needing to pay someone to use it to actually tune the car.

Maybe in the future I will regret it, but so far so good.
i agress with the on the fly mapping. while it seems like a cool feature, i would definitely never use that shit.

Anyone who's tried both TSP stage 1 and MAPerformance stage 1 have a strong opinion between the two? They both seem to be from reputable companies.

Thought Hondata would be better. Bought it first. After getting the TSP map I decided I wanted map seitching. Bought ktuner. So I have the TSP Map for both. I prefer the easily pocketable ktuner v1.2 plus tunerview and tunerviewlite are excellent.

The hondata sucks by comparison. I should probably sell it.

So your opinion is from not actually tuning the car, your just uploading canned files?

I have zero stake in this argument so I'm not saying anything bad about either.

I just have yet to see any real genuine statements as to why ktuner is the "superior" hardware.
At this point it feels like a kool aide drinking cult with everyone that "quick enable s" the adjustments on their car.

Customer service absolutely!

Software though..... if i had let go of my flashpro and the 10th gen ktuner software was anything like the 9th gen i just worked on, i would have been legitimately PISSED.

Not giving this opinion to sway anyone (as if it would).

I'm just still waiting to see any solid technical proof (which im starting to doubt exists)

Feels like a bandwagon.

All this coming from someone who has genuinely been LIVID at hondata previously.

I wanted the ktuner software to be better so i could also get on the wagon. It wasn't on the 9th gen. But again that was on a different car altogether.

Jury is still out for me. But im in a very small percentage who want to write all their own mapping.

I know I'll probably be crucified but so be it.

Nah. No tuning for me. Plenty of datalogging and reviewing. I will say the Hondata software felt more intuitive from my geeky skillset. I have past experience with Cobbs v1 and v2 using their StreetTuner software on my 2002 WRX and later RomRaider with a tactrix cable. I liked StreetTuner more than Romraider as well. On my 2011 EvoX I used Enginuity but barely touched it as I left that car with my friends shop for months to get the tune properly dialed in. I told him to tune it and drive it like it was his own car.

Hondata rubbed me the wrong way when they gave the ability to toggle scramble boost independently of normal and sport modes, THEN TOOK IT AWAY WITH THE NEXT VERSION UPDATE WITH ZERO WARNING IN THE RELEASE NOTES. Hondata release notes are a joke. Their presence on their own forum is oddly silent for long stretches of time, and even on this forum they rarely chime in. Posting questions to them online is like talking to a wall. Hell I called them about the scramble feature and all they could tell me was that they decided he feature needed additional work before being implemented again.

Despite that I still stuck with Hondata. Figured at least they deemed something unsafe and corrected the situation with an update.

What changed me to ktuner was my experience with the TSP Stg1 map. I was one of the first paying customers when it was released. I bought it for Hondata and was not hitting target boost. Was coming up shy by 3-4psi. After multiple emails back and forth with Derek and TSP, sending in datalogs and giving them descriptions of where in the timeline to see the issues, I flat out asked if the map worked better with ktuner. Derek replied that the map was created with ktuner and then later more or less ported over to the hondata with the same target metrics used.

So I bought the ktuner from TSP, ran the 19/23 map for a little while and then flashed the TSP Stg1 map. I have updated my ktuner software with each revision since and it hasn't been a problem. Works as desired.

But yeah, I guess you could just say it is cult minded behavior. That works right? All aboard the bandwagon.

Tell us about PRL Army too.

Isn’t the PRL army the same guys as the Ktuner TSP stage 1 rule the world already? We’ve heard of that bandwagon a million times already

Time to settle this once and for all. I've owned both and I think I'm objective. Both are great products and well engineered. My hats off to both companies for their great work.

Essentially, they both do the same thing although each have a slightly different approach.

You can't go wrong with either. No argument there. I still think Hondata gets a bit of a bum rap here at CivicX due to their forum inactivity.

I agree. They are both great solutions and well worth the investment.

I went with KTuner solely for the on the fly map switching and the ability to reuse across a wider range of Honda ECUs. If that isn't important, either solution would work great for a typical user.

@Micah I will say you have had a near identical set of complaints with them as I have had. The silence is infuriating when it occurs. One of the reasons I have tried to "be the change I was looking for" as somebody said to me on here back when I was bitching about the lack of "techy" information. I now try to share as much info as possible; even if it means busting there balls until I get a solid answer, just to stimulate conversations about our platform and what really matters to all of us....keeping them alive and well.

@gtman hats off to you man, you have put so much effort into what I touched on in the above paragraph.

There is too much product bashing and I will say its heavy one sided as most of us that are ACTUALLY USING the Hondata know how good a tool it is. Especially comparing other softwares for other manufacturer cars (my other turbo car stuff). I just choose to ignore the talk most of the time. I have put mine through the gauntlet for the last 25k miles and it still runs and sounds as good as new, probably in the 100's of times on re-flashes and changes experimenting and fine tuning. Up to 28 pounds of boost at one point. I have had good results. Whats funny, not funny, about it is I got more answers along my path from d-rob and Ktuner directly. And that speaks volumes on the type of people they are.

If your going to be using either product to just flash a map and be done then it makes zero difference.
