The best part that the new method won't require a laptop. It's web based and auto install.
Ya, that is great news for sure. A few guys have voiced concerns over the process so this may alleviate their worries.

I currently just leave my ktuner v1.2 plugged in the OBDII, no wires, no care. When I want to view info, open up TunerView app and that's it.
Have you problem about battery drain when the car is off?

Adding to this thread since it matches my queries closely..

I'm in the market to flash my ECU. I'm looking at the Ktuner site and not fully understanding what the v1.2 offers compared to the v2 other than the fact that it doesn't offer a display. Also, the site mentions usb is used to flash more quickly...but the v1.2 is an ODB connection? Does that mean to send the tune from my desktop computer to the ktuner hardware?

If all I'm looking to do is flash the ecu without using a laptop with off the shelf tunes and occasionally look at data to make sure everything is running well would the v1.2 fit my needs?

If I wanted to change tunes on the fly my understanding is with the 1.2 I can use the app to do that if for example I was in an area that didn't offer 93 octane.

I'd like to add if I were to run the multi stage tune on my type-r do the suspension rates and steering ratios still change between modes or will they be the same in all 3 modes?

literally the v1.2 can do everything the v2 can EXCEPT lock to an ECU with no laptop, and check and clear codes with no laptop, and it has no touchscreen. Everything else has the same requirements to run and flash and the tunes are the exact same thing. The Ktuner comes with all the cables youll need, one for USB from the computer to the Ktuner and then the ODBII cord for flashing and monitoring gauges.

Yeah but the V2 has shift lights which isn't the same on tunerview lol. Also V2 can store 5-6 tunes on it and can flash without need for laptop which is way more convenient, Datalogging is easier as well if your riding solo.

you can store 5 tunes a v1.2 and flash from the tunerview app and also datalog from the tunerview app. All those layouts have "shift lights" built in to the layouts.

I compared the two and the Display on the V2 shift lights respond quicker than that on tunerview. Also you can't store tunes on the stock headunit. Probably used your phone or an android tablet for that then since tunerview is different on those.
