If CC has to slow down because of a slower car in front of me, I might need to down shift to get back up to speed, or if (for example) I’m in 5th, and will be on a long stretch of highway, I’ll shift into 6th.

Plenty of other scenarios, but those are two of the first that came to mind.
I see, perfect explanation, thank you. In my previous cars, adaptive cruise control wasn’t a thing (it had cruise control, but not adaptive).

Haven’t owned a manual in many years, now in this 2019 sport touring.

Today while driving with the cruise control on, I popped it into neutral while approaching a stop sign and the engine revved right up, nearly to red line. Did it twice.

.
I do often this with no high revolution. Car is original, no Hondata tuned. I don't know what Hondata do, could it be the issue ?

Update;
My answer is wrong, I never do this , Sorry

The latest update changes throttle padding while cruise control main is on. It should stop doing it unless your not on the latest software. Im running hondata and have never had that issue. My mom on the other hand who bought the twin to my car but it is bone stock has complained about this happening. I have a feeling after more than a few tries the car will learn around it and it wont happen any more.

have seen this multiple times: cruising on the highway at 65 with cruise control on, clutch in, put in neutral, revs are staying the same for good 3-4 second and sometimes go up ever so slightly (not to redline though), not sure what's that about

It helps you shift without disabling cruise. Say your pulling a big hill with cruise at 65. You can downshift into 5th without having to work the throttle to "rev match".

This is a feature.

Do you press the brake after you shift to neutral? The brake probably cancels the cruise control.

or not complete the clutch cycle (press and release) although you should never just hold the clutch to the floor anyway. Also pulling it out of gear without pressing clutch could cause it as well.

I understand Op cancell cruise control when he said ; " Today while driving with the cruise control on, I popped it into neutral..."

Not put MT in neutral.

When I cancell cruse control I never use brake.

Popped into neutral does not require cancelling cruise control. If I shift into neutral without cancelling cruise, the car will rev to redline if the vehicle speed goes lower than the cruise control set speed.

There is nothing beside the clutch switches and brake switch to tell the car its all the sudden out of gear. Mystery solved. User error.

This doesn't sound right. On my SI the revs do not increase in neutral. You have about 3 seconds to put it back to a gear before it self cancels.

But it has come a long way. Even from the 8th gen, any clutch press would cancel cruise.

Then going way back, I remember my prelude was so dumb you could set cruise while in neutral The car would instantly redline lol.

The CC was on, I depressed the clutch and put the car in neutral and the revs shot up. I tapped the brake to disable the CC which stopped the revs from rising.

The possibilities are as follows:

1. I slipped the car out of gear into neutral without depressing the clutch, which I did not do, and did not test
2. I accidentally stood on the gas pedal when I put it in neutral, which I did not do
3. System error wherein the CC was not disabled when the clutch was depressed

4. maybe you short stroked the clutch without realizing it?

Isn't there a neutral position sensor? I've seen few posts mention it before.
