This is my 2nd time getting pulled over for exhaust. I’m going stock exhaust and keeping the exhaust stock from now on. Can’t do it anymore in California. They are cracking down so hard
Definitely sucks, especially if it isn’t that loud.

What happened the first time you got pulled over? Also sorry to hear, sucks that the cop picked on you when there's so many modded cars running around here.

95 dbA is the limit here in California and to be frank 95 isn't even that loud if you measure it. Just like running around with too dark tints, covered license plates, or other illegal mods. You run the risk of some over-vigilant cop pulling you over.

OP wrote ; "....Honestly my exhaust isn’t even loud compared to some of the cars driving around my area, ..."

I will never understand where this idea of wanting to make more noise comes from (even less under the pretext that the neighbor is noisier)
It's noise pollution.

Think of others who are disturbed by your car (yes, yes) you did not know?

I would like this California rule to apply to me.

I can't imagine living in California! It boggles my mind how much control the state has. Florida, the land of year round summer, no vehicle safety inspection, no emissions testing, and no state income tax welcomes you with open arms. You just have to dodge the #FloridaMan.. Good luck getting it sorted!

Living in SoCal, you must learn to live with a completely stock tuner car. Or be sure to get CARB E.O. approved parts, that's the only way. You can't get around that anymore like it was many years ago.

Going catless is already a risk in itself, you should already have that expectation in the back of your head. That it's a matter of time when you get pulled over, and be prepared for the questions and scrutiny.

To have tuner parts on our car's or similar, you have to go the proper route. There's just no escaping that, it's a russian roulette on getting pulled over in California. But with CARB legal parts, you can still get pulled over. But with CARB legal docs, it can be pardoned by Ref station, or the police may just let you go cause you have the proper docs/certs.

Even doing a muffler delete, but still retaining the cat and resonator. Can still get you a ref ticket, because of the "missing" muffler, and according to the VC, cars must have an "adequate" muffler. If you choose to run an aftermarket, the sound needs to register under 95db.

As much as I like adding tuner parts, etc. I've learned to keep my cars bone stock living here in CA. Now the most I'll add is a CARB Legal intake.

You'll have to deal with the Ref ticket, unfortunately no escaping that either. Put all the oem parts back on the car. Take it to the Ref station, pay the fees. And keep your car stock unless you decide to get CARB legal/certified parts.

This process is not fun, but it's part of the whole "pay to play".

Man I feel for my Cali bros and gals. Different world out there.

First business trip out there was quite a shock. Walked into a random shop to buy a bottle of water and it came to like $5. I stopped and asked the lady what the heck. She politely pointed to the sign that stated there was a mandatory $2.50 fee applied to every transaction to fundraise for homeless abandoned vegan kittens or something. I politely returned the water and went on my way.

Pretty weather and loved being in a place where I could walk out of a bar and have a smoke with people. People are pretty fantastic, even if they are a little condescending to people living in flyover states.

sorry to hear that man. A similar thing happened to my friend with his 3000GT like a decade ago. he got a ticket for CAI. This exhaust law is BS a lot of performance cars coming from factories already violate that law: Mustang GT is one of them.

Just curious, what part of CA do you live in? I noticed the Bay Area and LA cops are assholes in general.

I feel like the cops here in the Bay and LA are hit or miss. I see plenty of cars with limo tint in the front and fairly loud exhausts (again, volume is subjective). I've noticed cops in the valley like Fresno, let's say, tend to be more douche like because they've got nothing else to do but watch cars drive by all day.

OP - Not running a cat in cali is asking for trouble. I'd wager you got pulled over because of how your car smells.

As said, return everything to stock and take it in.

Bro, when you say that I feel very lucky living in Folsom (East of Sacramento). Folsom PD is really chill. Over the last ten years, I have tinted my front windows on 3 cars we've owned and was also missing the front license plate on 2 of those cars, yet they never cared about any of that. Then I visited LA one time, parked on the side of Hollywood Blv and came back to a ticket for missing front license plate. I'm only one person though, so it could very much be hit or miss like you said.
