My Si from the factory was riddled with swirls. After a week, I clayed it, and used a light abrasive swirl remover then applied a ceramic coating. Been about 2 months, and it's still immaculate. I use Blackfire waterless wash weekly.

Sonic gray pearl here and I've been using Meguiar's hybrid ceramic wax and she shines.

how hard was it applying a ceramic coat? I've considered doing this eventually.

Yeah, buddy! 4 of months in with my CBP DD.

All previous cars were just preparation for taking care of my Si. Straight home from the dealership, I did my patent-pending* 5-stage exterior RepulsorField detail:
1. Full proper top-to-bottom wash with microfiber mitt, etc. (you know how it’s done)
2. Full clay bar strip.
3. Black detailer + SwirlX buff to make the paint flawless.
4. Klasse AIO seal
5. Nano wax buffed to a high shine

AND this doesn’t include the HELLA microfiber towel wipe downs in between each step to ensure no extra material is left behind!

This job (just the exterior, mind you) takes 4-5 hours because it’s all by-hand, no machine involved.

I tell you, prep is everything, but after the initial time investment, the car is sealed, and ready for everyday life. #TheStruggleIsWorthIt

What do you guys do to prevent swirls? As stated previously, for me, I use the 2 bucket system when hand washing my car. Actually in my case, 3 bucket system (yeah a little overkill) LOL, 2 for rinsing the wash mitten and the third for the car soap. 7 months into ownership, and it's worked perfectly.

For shine, I utilize Nu Finish. So easy to use and rain literally beads for months on end after application. And the occasional touchless car wash like @Micah stated.
No, you’re spot-on (or off, as it were :p). A multi-bucket system is really the first step to maintaining a swirl-free appearance.

Not that hard tbh. The hardest part is usually the prep work, i.e. buffing/swirl remover. The ceramic coating takes a while to apply and I did 2 coats. You just have to be patient and not rush it or you'll end up with high spots. Good videos on Autogeek.com about how to apply it.
