Is it even worth tuning the Si?

I was pretty happy with my stock Si. It has more power and better handling than my 9th gen Si Coupe. Tuned??? Completely different animal. This little turbo motor hauls ass! Not to mention that it has more torque to the wheels than almost any naturally aspirated V6 in a car that weighs less than 3000lbs. Ya zero to 60 may be hung up in the low 6’s, high 5’s but once rolling this thing flys just with a tune. That’s what I love about my tuned Si, not how I comes out of the hole. I’m not launching the car at every opportunity, I’m enjoying the power and handling balance while underway.

Two car garage last week featured a story on the eco boost mustang ... I larger turbo swap out can be installed in any garage giving 400 plus HP. I LIKE THE IDEA of that ... tweaking a four to perform like an eight ... it's what we like compared to fat heavy iron can't turn performance.

Here's my two cents.
It doesn't matter which care you buy...Civic, 5.0 Mustang, WRX STi / Evo ... you'll probably won't leave it stock (at least, I won't).
The mods can be mild (e.g. aftermarket wheels, or small exterior changes), or heavy (e.g. built engine, tune, etc).
This makes it, your car; different from the Civic down the street, or any other Civic you see around.

I'm in the industry, and can attest this is true to an extent - there are classifications of parts, and certain ones are purely social media moves. Wild wraps, wild aero, extremely loud exhausts, wild lighting, thin stretched tires, flashy wide wheels, camber, massive often vision obstructing banners, and other such modifications. They are also the first to "slide in the DM's" aka send a personal message, and ask for free sponsorships in the way of free products.

My personal build I can say I have received some items at discounted pricing due to existing client relationships, but I've returned value through product install videos, product testing and reviews. My content isn't blown out of proportion, I try to keep it as factual and unbiased as possible. My following isn't massive, but I get a ton of inquiries from fellow enthusiasts asking what parts I'm running, my thoughts, and even chiming in myself into conversations where I can provide insight :)
That's what it's about

I don't social media much, but I will definitely support you. Good luck with your Instagram page!

I think the general consensus I'm getting is that mod the car because it makes you happy. I'm sure we all could've purchased a car that is faster from the start, but chose the Si for all the reasons that everyone else is saying.

I just hate it when other people has that same old comment "dude it's a Civic, you should've gotten this car or that car if you wanna go fast".

That's true, but maybe we all don't wanna go that fast anymore or have such high HP cars.

Hi all,

Just wanted to hear your thoughts and opinions on a discussion that my co-worker and I had the other day that kind of stuck to me.

We all love the Si because the car as a whole is a very good bang for the buck daily driver. For me, it definitely makes the daily commutes much more fun.

The question is, do you guys feel it's worth it to put money in this car to increase performance?

Basically, my co-worker argued that if you want serious performance, get a performance car. If you want serious power, get a V8. Yeah, he's one of those guys.

My argument was that performance doesn't mean straight up HP and torque figures. However, it did occur to me that a lot of us Si owners already purchased expensive bolt-ons and tuning solutions for just a hair more performance.

The average Si owner may get an intake, downpipe, exhaust and a tune. Now, with those items alone, the Si is definitely a different car and much more powerful. However, let's say you put that money on a turbo kit and tune on an 8th or 9th gen Si, an Evo or even a Gti? Or as my co-worker said, get a 5.0 and call it a day.
It's all about purpose. I daily my Si and don't plan on any crazy mods. The car really is a beast for the purpose it's built for. A 5.0 mustang can't compete in that department. One of my employees has a 2011 mustang with a tune, exhaust, and a few other bolt-on and always likes to talk shit, so I like to mess with him. We've gone a few times. Yes in a drag he pulls me, but has to work for it. In a real street race though he couldn't hang. I would stay several lengths on him if turns were involved. For a daily commuter it's a beast with or without mods (well, if you know how to drive). I have a separate vehicle for straight line brute force. Cars are purpose built, and people like to say this car ain't shit or you have to have a V8 to really race. Depends on the racing you're doing with it. I don't intend on it being a drag car, I have my 383 C1500 for that. Like I tell people, if my Honda doesn't beat you, my Chevy will.

The way i see it these days there are people who install parts is to gain instagram followers, i know i might get bashed for this but deep inside you know that this is true!
In this day and age you can’t knock the power of social media.
The guys installing parts to gain followers are probably looking at turning social media into a source of income. I can’t knock those guys. They’re out getting theirs and at the same time pushing the envelope and visibility of these cars.

You can make real money off Instagram. Now you got teen Instagram influencers worth millions while some of us are encumbered with tuition debt to get a degree just so we make 3 figures.

This reminds me the age old debate:

Imports: if there were turns, I'd beat your solid rear axle Mustang.

Domestics: Then race me on a straight line.

German cars: Ha! I'll beat both of you in turns and straight line.

My SI is my daily and I drive it roughly 64 miles round trip a day. A KTuner is definitely worth it. As for your co-worker saying "BuY a PeRfOrMaNcE cAr", just go FBO and you'll surprise quite a few people.

Mexico Trip where I encountered a BMW and a Challenger tried to join in...

In that case you just earned your self another follower
Thank You, and likewise followed back :)

You can always see the specs of what I'm running out in the open - some social media "influencers" love hiding things, especially wheel specs because they don't want to be copied...I'll post exactly what I have, and what you can safely run because the community I want to foster we're learning from each other. Forums are great for that meaty knowledge, drama is mostly kept to a minimum as we're mostly here on purpose not casual banter like Facebook and Instagram, and those who say forums are dead are the ones hiding the info IMO.
