Nice write-up, and what appears to be solid engineering

I remember reading similar gains by a tuner testing your intake pipe with a drop-in K&N for significantly less money in a comparo of multiple intake system.

What are the benefits of purchasing the 'full monty' intake vs your intake tube and a high-flow drop-in?

Our Stage one intake is a great bang for your buck modification to maintain stock components and have a few extra ponies. Our HVIS, as our testing has shown, will open that airflow up to give you maximum gains throughout the power band. Check out our prlarmy.com blog for a complete write up of the performance differences from our stage one to our HVIS. :)

Still waiting for some more real-world reports before pulling the trigger. Only saw a coupla Youtube videos but no real substantive third-party info. Hoping to see more third-party dyno runs and IAT readings. We shall see. I did order the new charge pipe kit though :).

I'm from a CARB state so I only buy mods (emissions-related) that can easily be reverted back to factory (within an hour) before going the smog station. But that's just my personal preference, so other non-carb states can mod away (a little envious).

i probably will. This and their TI inlet pipe is on my list.
Still debating about the charge pipe.

I've changed the same parts so many times, just trying to make sure this would be the one lol
It’s added a nice growl that with my rv6 front pipe and stock exhaust I’m no longer looking for an aftermarket exhaust.

yeah i probably would already order it if it was in stock but waiting for the 3rd batch is :(
a part of me also wants to wait for the TI pipe to be released and buy them at the same time too ...

I've been holding off on an exhaust for the same reason. I'm in batch 2 so in a few weeks I'll have some more growl.

If that's not enough I'll do a down pipe.

It’s added a nice growl that with my rv6 front pipe and stock exhaust I’m no longer looking for an aftermarket exhaust.

Any sound clips you can provide? I have been holding off on an exhaust as well but if a front pipe will give it more growl im game for that. i already have their HVI installed.

I’ve coated front pipe, so as it warms up, it gets louder and louder. I believe louder than if it wasn’t coated.

Most of the sound is still in cabin, less so outside. But It does also sound louder outside.

In all truth it’s loud enough for me that adding a down pipe might cross the line with loudness on a stock exhaust. It is by far the loudest stock exhaust for any car in cabin I’ve ever been in. Save for an exotic.

Removal of Factory Intake System:

Disconnect the the battery by removing the positive terminal and carefully placing this to the side.

Remove the factory intake hose by removing the 2 hose clamps at the very ends of the intake hose assembly using a flathead screwdriver. Only the clamp that attaches the hose to the turbocharger inlet pipe and the clamp that attaches the corrugated inlet hose to the air box need to be removed. Remove the vacuum line attached with the hose clamp and the 2 10mm head bolts that attach the Evap purge valve to the plastic housing.

Disconnect the MAF sensor by pressing on the clip and pulling out.

Remove the MAF sensor wiring harness from the retaining clips and casing by using a flathead screwdriver to release the detents. Pull this harness and its exposed wires to the side.

Remove the MAF Sensor from the factory MAF housing by using a Phillips Head Screwdriver.

Remove the two 10mm head bolts at the front of the air box.

Remove the 10mm head bolt at the back of the air box that goes through the rubber mount.

Remove the 10mm head bolt located on the right side of the air box between the ECU using an extension.

What is the best way to remove the clamp that doesn't have a screw head on it? I know there is a term for that type of clamp, but I can't recall what you call it exactly. Its the small hose clamp that is closest to the inlet pipe.

Oh yeah that mf tamper-resistant clamp that no vendor wants to mention in their installation instructions. Use a small needle nose pliers or small vise grip and lots of patience and a little bit of cuzzing.

Did you observe the same loudness prior to the PRL HV intake or the loudness just magnified after installing the new intake?

IMO spool sound increased. Bypass valve sound is as loud as a green filter with prl hose on the stock airbox.
