Would be cool if they made a HB Si! Not that I would buy one (getting a Tyoe R) but it would be cool nonetheless.

Well wang size is definitely a factor in how big the wing is but we won't go there lol.

But seriously , i was just commenting on his comment at face value of him saying its functional. My point is a could strap two box fans to the back that would be more functional for areo then that wing is.
Seriously, this is fucking stupid. Extra downforce means extra grip without the momentum penalty. Extra downforce means I'm not getting actual lift at interstate speeds, which is what regular Civics get. I'll take it if it works.

The wing is functional. Period. At 55+ mph, the aero is working. You think it's some switch that turns on at 90 mph, otherwise does nothing? Are you some sort of aero expert? You have wind tunnel data? Or are you just talking out your ass, per usual?

Just no.

Well here ya go car and driver quoting honda...https://www.caranddriver.com/featur...2017-honda-civic-type-rs-aero-bits-explained/ produces 66lbs at 124 mph... and if you just do some googleing you will.find most any wing on any car does not produce any effect till 80 to 100mph. So yeah ..um..suck it. And to throw it back at you...you think its a magic switch at 55 mph. Lol... wheres your proof? You a areo expert? Where is your wind tunnel? Or you just talking out your ass? dude go read up on areo. All wings are basically useless at street/highway speeds. There is countless articles to back me up...you?

The wing completes the car in my opinion. I get why some people dislike it but for me that giant wing makes me happy every time I see it.

It would be nice if the buyer could pick one of these two wing options. Of course, Honda only offers trim levels instead of la carte options, so that probably won't ever happen. . . but maybe I am wrong here.

I have grown to not mind the huge wing . . . . in fact, I might actually miss it when it's gone. Thanks to the wing, from miles away people can see that it's a Type R, not some college co-ed Civic. It's like seeing a huge wing and recognizing instantly that it's an STi, instead of a pedestrian WRX.

Lmfao.

1.5 will never happen because they’d have to make new spindles, driveshafts, and maybe a few other things to accommodate the brakes / different bolt pattern.

OR!

They just tune the Si Engine that can already handle 220+ HP... the difference would be the same suspension as the standard Type R with Brembos etc.

(I have no idea I am only speculating for funsies)

I don't get it, the R is an R...leave it that way. It was meant to draw attention and perform as such. I don't think they are "dumbing" down a Civic R, probably a Si model or cheap R (Not dumb, just "different styling"), or maybe they are seeing what that spoiler does on an R.
Current spoiler makes the rear end look right and that flat thing just looks more so out of place with the painted areas down lower. My opinion but if you bought an R, you bought it for that, and I wouldn't have bought one if it looked like that picture in back. Look at how many non-sports cars have some kind of spoiler. They aren't functional but people brush them off as they "look ok". When someone sees a large spoiler on a car, they say "omg, that's useless", but in this case it's from Honda and is proven to provide XXlbs of force at speed.

I think there are some improvements to the looks of the areas in question, I don't care because I don't really notice them on my black car. I'd rather see someone come out with something like a horizontal reverse fog light in there or something useful. Missile housing up front would be perfect. Can anyone see all four of the "vents" dropping down to expose some Bond-like gear?

Would not upgrade to those rear painted areas, more so if it was a "type" R. Will wait for Bond gadgets.

Does that mean it's ~33lbs at 62mph? Think you are not "thinking" about what you are posting as you are wrong on the aspect of the current spoiler. You just spit a lot of questions at someone but ultimately, you should provide the answers to all of those before stating "you will.find most any wing on any car does not produce any effect till 80 to 100mph."

You're wrong on that for one, secondly, take the R to a track and if you are driving at speeds, not using the abilities of the spoiler...you s**k. Maybe in a parking lot it's out of place to you but don't buy a car with the ability to become glue at ~170mph, nor bash on someone stating a known reason the spoiler is there. You'll never use your engine's capabilities to the limits by the sounds of it so why worry about a spoiler in that case? It's not a "magical switch" or some adjustable spoiler. It was meant to provide down force at speed, and to hold your rear end on the road when doing so. Rip it off and take her up to her limits. Report back when you do.

That's really only one data point though. Obviously we get a second one of 0 lbs @ 0 MPH. But besides that we have no other information to even begin to model how much downforce the car will produce at X MPH.

I would like to add that a lot of active wings/spoilers will activate around 60-ish MPH. Personally I don't feel like they would activate at that speed if there was no effect at said speed. The Lexus RC F, for example, activates at 50 MPH automatically, the LFA I believe is 60. Porsche says in their literature that it automatically activates its wing at 75 MPH and will automatically retract it at 50 MPH.

Using this data, I'd argue that these (relatively) small wings have some strong effect around 60 MPH as it's the spot when the wing is extended/retracted. It's also possible that the wing is retracted at said speeds to improve fuel economy as well it might have an effect on driving dynamics otherwise).

If you could provide a source that shows the CTR wing's downforce at various well spread out speeds between 20 and 140 MPH it would help your point quite a bit.

Yall kill me, you say im wrong with no proof yet you say you are right with the same amount of no proof..lol. areo is not a constant. 66lbs at 124 does not equally divide and mean 33lbs at 62mph. I also never said it was unless at speed.. key word at speed. Yes on a track or going 80 plus miles an hour does it job. I said it was useless in daily everyday driving. Most interstates ( I know not all) are 65mph. Now what exactly is a wing doing you at 65 mph? or in city driving? when I think we can mostly agree wing effects(depending on car and wing surface and and angle) dont come into effect till around 60 to 80? So back to my original statement that everyone is so busy arguing they total overlook. The wing is useless in everyday driving.

Anyway believe what ya want there are literally hundreds of resources and forums that will tell you wings on everyday cars are for the most part useless and only for cars that track at high speeds. believe what ya want.

but just for fun here ya go read this.. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/glo...y-improve-a-cars-performance/article21180268/ its just one of many all over the net that tells you they are useless on everyday cars. you know how to google.. do it. LOL

Downforce is proportionally equal to the square of an objects velocity. Don’t believe me, look at the equation for downforce.

Fdown = 0.5ClArV²
where:
Fdown - Aerodynamic downforce
Cl- Coefficient of lift
A- Frontal area
r- Air density
V- Object velocity

So, downforce increases exponentially with velocity, The forces may be lower at low speeds, but they aren’t zero. In theory as the cars velocity increases, so does its downforce (assuming it has a wing). The more you increase the surface area of the wing, increase the angle of attack on the wing (effects Coefficient of lift), or increase velocity, the more downforce you generate.

The only downside to downforce (pun intended) is added drag, which is countered by adding additional horsepower.

So the wing does in-fact do something. Anyway what do I know? I’m just an engineer on a longwinded rant.
