Believe it or not I am a doctor so all of that practice during my surgery rotation came in handy in the most unpredictable way.

I had a 1996 Civic that I'd changed the headlights out a few times on and this happened at least once and I wanted to throw the car away after wrestling with trying to get the bulbs properly in their holes. I think the first time I was able to do it properly, through the engine bay, theoretically as designed, it took like 2 hours and tons of frustration. After another couple hours on my next try, and dropping the bulb in the housing, I think the internet suggested taking the bumper off, removing the housing and installing the bulb. It ended up taking like half an hour and very little frustration really easy access and all was done. It kinda sucks to have to remove the bumper but it was way, way easier.

Use the turbo snake.

haha yeah it really is a headache to deal with.

Wire coat hanger. Just make a hook or loop on one end and fish it out.

Update:

I decided to make an apparatus similar to what we use in interventional radiology.

I put a piece of trimmer line through a water hose and made a loop at the end of it then stuck it through the side blinker opening.

I then put the loop around the bulb and pulled it tight.

Once the bulb was secure I pulled the hose and slowly got the bulb out on a single try.

I attached a photo for reference.

Thanks for all the suggestions and the jokes. Problem solved without the need to take the bumper and headlight off.

It took me approximately 25 minutes from start to finish.
