Hey fellas,

I have a few quick questions and I want to get some opinions on and make sure I know what I am talking about. I have a great toyota tacoma but recently got a job where I am driving 70 miles round-trip (60 miles is highway), so the 17 mpg isn't going to cut it anymore. Thus, I decided I needed to get something much more economical but I still want something fun. I have never driven a manual but have had motorcycles and think I will love it, so after much consideration a manual civic seems to be my best bet after a ton of research. I like the hatch sport the best, but not ruling out the SI quite yet as there are many more used SI as opposed to manual sports. I know they just came out with a new 2020 hatch but not sure if I understand all of the differences. So the 2017-2018 models had no apple play, while the 2019-2020 models do correct? Is that the only real difference (besides the sight stuff which I do not care about at all)? And the 2017-2019 SI all had apple play, or was it just the 2019? If I can get a 2017 hatch with 20-30k miles for 17,000 is it worth it opposed to 20-21k for a new bare bones 2019? Should I just go for a used 2017/2018 SI which will probably be the same price as a used manual sport hatch as they are much rarer? Any and all opinions are great! Sorry for the wall of text and I really appreciate any and all help!

Get any ā€˜17+ Civic with the CVT if youā€™ve any stop-and-go traffic. Otherwise get the Si. Best bang for buck. Good luck.

Either will be a good choice, but an Si will probably be a little more fun as it's a little faster. In regards to the headunit, a 2017 hatch sport allows you to swap it out for a better aftermarket so if you love to upgrade sound systems it's your way to go. Whereas you can't change the Si head unit yet. I really love the hatch though, so even though an Si is faster I'd be leaning towards the hatch.

If about 12 minutes round trip is in the city (albeit not much traffic for the most part) and the other hour is all highway no traffic would manual be worth it?

I would go with the 2020. Honda is finally admitting that there are problems with their aircon systems and they may replace some of the faulty parts with better parts on the new vehicles.

I guess it all depends on your budget and what you can afford. If I had to do it again, I do go with a 18'+ Hatchback Sport or Sport Touring with the 1.5T CVT in Sonic Gray. But if you are going to be spending over $20K out the door, you might as well go with the newest versions 19'+. Either way, take your time and test drive to get an idea of what you will be driving. Enjoy it, God bless!

Don't get the touring. Not worth it.

Is the 16 a known lemon? Or is skipping this year just a precaution taken without any evidence? My 16 civic EXL CVT has 92K, and never a problem. Or may be there were some new features added in 17?

Are you concerned with power? If you donā€™t need crazy performance but want something that looks good, get the Sport. I got my sport for 21k after TTL. I got the sedan instead of the hatch because it was about 1.5 k cheaper and had a better infotainment, and with the sport package I donā€™t have to do as many mods as I wouldā€™ve to get it looking great. It all comes down what you value most. If you want something cool but cheap, get a Sport. If you want performance but for a little bit more, get a SI.
