I guess everyone's situation will likely be different. We don't drive a lot in our family as our commutes are very short. We drive about 5,000 or less per car. Due to the short trips and since I change do the oil changes myself (except for our Toyota), we change oil once per year.

Having oil in ANY car engine for over 10,000 miles is rediculous,
,...
we are not robots, that need computers to tell us what to do!!...this computer nonsense needs to stop!!

USE YOUR OWN BRAIN AND THINK!!!!!!
Thanks for suggestion. Just to clarify, that is the whole point of the post...MM says do this and I disagree. I wanted to see what other people were experiencing.

I'm glad your time based approach is working for you, but its not feasible for me.

I use Honda full synthetic oil (0w-20) and I change it when my MM gets to 10-15%. That ends up being at ~10k miles.

I autocross my car A LOT and it does see the redline often.

Every oil analysis I've had, they report the oil as analyzing like it's been in the car for about 5k miles. Oil starts "looking black" very fast in a car, usually in the first 1k miles. That's a very bad metric to use to justify the engine health value of an oil change interval (OCI) of 4k miles. It's a very very far cry from oil that's been burnt or is sludging

Changing oil more often than about 10k miles on these modern cars is a waste of $$$. It doesn't hurt, for sure, but I wouldn't be burning my $$$ needlessly like that

My experience seems to be on the opposite end of the post owner. I think the dealer is setting mine to alert on a shorter distance.
After the first oil change, the maintenance minder won't show the remaining estimated KM before the next oil change until after a few days of daily commute. then it will show around 5,500 km. Assuming that I have traveled 500km that week (which I doubt), 6,000km is only like 3,728 miles.

And I believe I paid for synthetic.

That interval seems exceedingly short. I drive 90% highway and change my oil when MM says its at 10%. I regularly get between 15,000km and 17,500km per oil change.

I use amsoil signature 0w30 which is rated for 25k miles or 1 year with their synthetic filter. I change my oil every year which is about 13k miles. Most new high rated synthetics can handle longer intervals, just make sure the filter you are using can handle it as well. There is no point on putting a 25k mile or 1 year oil with a filter that can only take 4k miles or 3 months.

Thanks! I don't drive as much highway as you, but I think my oil interval sounds too short. I will definitely check with other dealers here to compare notes.

Cheers!
