I'll choose to park on the passenger side of a vehicle if the far away safe spots aren't an option. I'd rather be safe when opening my driver's door than not knowing if the other person is going to be reckless with theirs and ding me.
If you look in the passenger front window of the car next to you sometime you'll see a bunch of stuff on the seat. In those cases I presume there was no passenger & therefore pretty safe to park next to. If I see a baby car seat in the back that's a sign to stay away from that side.

Thats a great idea, never thought of ever doing that. But then again, I always park far enough away and ultimately walk, lot of walking :)

I always park far away if possible. But if for some reason I have to compromise then I'll explore my options.

I'm unlucky enough to have to park in a public parking lot at work and home.:( I always look for an end spot and park as close to the curb as possible. That usually helps with other cars but even then there are hazards. Like the jerk from the landscaping company mowing the grass near the curb and spewing wet grass and little stone chips and mulch towards the side of my car.

Maybe we all should consider the world famous DentGoalie...

Trust me out of all those empty parking spots some piece of crap will park niches away from you I’ve had it happen to me plenty of times. It’s unfortunate

I’ll go out of my way to park as far away from others as possible, especially at breweries because people get reckless. At this brewery someone dented the entire hood to the point of needing a replacement on an old work vehicle.

Thankfully at work we have a corner on the 3rd level of the garage where all of the people who don’t own company cars park. We have a common agreement that we wont ding each other’s doors.

I've been like this since I got my license because people are inconsiderate as fuck. Swinging their doors open, not paying attention, parking too close, bad ass kids playing near my shit, you name it. There's always some prick who could give a rat's ass about their car so they don't care about yours either.

Oh and don't get me started on grocery store parking lots...always a stray carriage that magically teleports next to my car by the time I come out. Infuriating. :nono:

Well have a new si and I work at a hospital with a busy parking lot I’m dreading Parking there because I feel like my cars gonna get all dinged up Am I the only one who’s paranoid about this kinda stuff ?
Wife gets mad when I park out away from everyone. I've had my car for 3 years and have one ding. I did it myself. When you spend your hard earned money on an awesome vehicle, you want to make sure it stays that way.

Nah man, my rear quarter already has dimples in it and some missing paint, no doubt from some child at the supermarket swinging their door open like it's a fire escape and jamming it against the side of my car to get out. Don't try parking far away on your own either, people are very attracted to shiny things, you'll come out and your car will have started a colony of other cars parked in the back of the lot.

Good Lord, it’s nice to be among my people! Like others, I park FAR FAR away. I find it’s typically the employees who park near the rear of parking lots because they’re not leaving the place for a while, and those cars generally have a lower probability of inducing dings. Overall, I look for end spaces, or park at the rearmost set of spaces in a lot.

That's the downside of owning nice cars. There are haters everywhere unfortunately, and not everyone is careful about opening their car doors. I notice people park far away from others, or find a parking spot closest to a wall or area. Like myself I try to park near a wall, but majority of the time I can't avoid it. Sometimes I think having a beater car is better, never have worry about dings, dents, etc. Lol

This thread reminded of a situation I was in a few years back. Parked in a spot minding my own business waiting for my kid to come out of hockey practice. A Ford Explorer pulls up beside me and the kid in the back, about 10 years old opens the door and literally kicks it open. What stopped his door? My friggin car! Kid didn't put a ding into it, he creased it. The kid's mom no doubt heard it, but didn't notice me in the drivers seat and proceeded into the arena without a care in the world. When I stopped her, she cussed me out saying it's a kid and what is she to do about it?

I tried to chase it down but eventually ended up repairing it out of my own pocket.

People can be shit.....
