I'm guessing they're locked because Derek feels like they may push things too far for the CVT?

The main TSP tune (map 3) is a custom 16.5 psi setup.
May I ask where you're getting this information? I'd like to see it for myself and understand it piece by piece. Not entirely sure whether or not map 3 is the most powerful map. I'd like to know what's set for ECO under each map.

Yeah but that doesn't really tell us what's going on under ECO mode vs Normal Mode for Map 1. It's a little confusing for me to decipher as I'm new to this. Please be gentle, Lol.

And what would the custom boost levels be in this tune? 21 PSI? Seems to me like some settings are still hidden (like early spool) and I can't tell.

Map 1 retains the factory commanded boost targets in both "normal" and "Eco" modes.

The peak commanded pressure (and the shape of the commanded boost curve) is a bit variable based on ambient pressure, throttle input, etc. You can log the TC Target for yourself at various parts of driving to decipher some of it, if you feel so inclined.

I can't give away all of my secrets. It's how I make a living. :p

Thanks for informative post! I see you're a PA neighbor... as I reside in Mt. Pocono!

OK. I think I need to back up the truck so to speak on my posts yesterday on the TSP Stage 1 tune. I decided to do one more full "test drive" with the tune this morning. I did it early this morning when the temps were only in the 60's. What a difference! Previous tests were done at high temps with very high humidity and I think that was the real issue, not the tune. I datalogged everything and I will be posting my extended findings soon.

Update:

Check out my detailed test results here:

I always thought of it when I read your feedback, and that's why I haven't yet written the ecu, I'm waiting to come back from the holidays that will be cooler, so I put it on the dyno

with this heat, the few times I use the civic in the evening I am stunned by how much it pushes compared to the day, it cuts at least 20/30 hp

Although I own a 6MT, I actually like the way the throttle position actually commands torque with the TSP tune. Aggressive throttle response gives you a hard push with little throttle, but as you push deeper you get a "nothing happens" in return. With the TSP (and with my own tune) I really like the progressive torque request. It is as good as a small boosted application can get for my taste and style in driving. In fact my own recipe tune is even softer on throttle response to make it super smooth down low

Great post.

I've finally decided to flash back to the aggressive Dual 21 Starter tune because the TSP Stage 1 really feels like I'm on a factory tune when I'm driving under 30 mph. I'll flash back to TSP Stage 1 tune when it starts snowing in the North East. Still a good tune nonetheless.

Just a few notes after more seat time with the TSP...

If you switch from the KTuner 21 like me and adjusted throttle and turbo response aggressively, the TSP tune may feel like a let down at part throttle. It definitely did to me, at first. Now I fully understand what D-Rob was going for and I'm loving it. The KTuner setup feels potent down low, where the TSP tune needs a more deliberate stab of the pedal at part throttle. You are kind of fooled into thinking the TSP tune is slow. But it isn't.

What you realize is the KTuner tune tends to feel less and less snappy as the rpms go higher and the feeling of oomph is weaker up top. The TSP tune on the other hand feels smooth til 4,000 then zoom zoom zooms at the top end. Overall, I prefer the TSP but miss being able to tweak things here and there.

I've really been impressed with my MPG's. When I take it easy I'm seeing better mileage than with my KTuner 21. Often getting around 45+ mpg.

BTW, if anyone else wants to chime in about how things are going with their KTuner, you are welcome to post in this thread. It would be great to hear from more "KTuners".

I’ve got a Si but from what you have experienced @gtman , the same holds true. I was running the Factory/23psi starter with quick spool enabled, and progressively high turbo/throttle response map 1 through 3 and Sport mode. Map 3 sport I could spin my tires at a poke of the throttle in 2nd gear. Really cool lighting the tires up in second on a roll. The fun ended at 4500rpm and it felt flat. On the TSP tune, once and a while I’ll get tire spin in 2nd, but it hauls ass past 3500rpm all the way to redline. It comes very close to the powerband of my 9th gen Si, just not the 7200rpm cut off. I actually really love the way drob tunes in the power at the top end, way better than KTuner basemaps (as great as they are).

@Gotch in regards to spinning tires down low, from what I understand, Hondata is supposed to have a feature to limit wheel spin at lower RPMS, is there a similar setting/feature for Ktuner?

Just to add one more thought.

I took the car out for an hour this morning on this test loop I use and really put this tune through it's paces. Drove it harder than I have before. It was actually shocking how much deeper into the throttle I had to go to feel similar to my previous tune at lower speeds. But floor it and holy hell! It's night and day. Now if we can combine the snappy low end feel and throttle response of the KTuner aggressive setup with the high throttle madness of the TSP tune, that would be perfect. :)

I guess to do that, we need a custom tune.
Right, this seems to be the proper marriage of the two tunes, the next natural evolutionary step in simple flash tunes for our cars. Good review!

Yes, Boost By Gear settings. I mostly use my right foot though.

Advanced VSA is also available and has 3 settings.
