Does this kit feature a bypass valve to make sure you don’t have flow going through the cooler when oil is cold?
A thermostatic bypass valve? We determined it wasn't needed for these reasons: the factory 0W-20 oil flows and protects the engine well at cold temperatures, and the car has no trouble reaching operating oil temps even when it is cold out with the cooler unit installed. These turbo engines (2.0L and 1.5L) are compact and produce a lot of heat. Of course, whether or not you have the unit installed, you should let your care warm up before doing any spirited driving.

The factory grille blocks a lot of cooling in general, and will block some of this oil cooler unit as well. When we tested this kit with a tuned 1.5T EXT model with the factory grille, it worked great (and actually that setup is what produced the graph of oil temps on the product page). That said, your cooling power across the board will be much better if you get this grille: https://www.procivic.com/p/m/civic/pro-design-honeycomb-performance-mesh-grille.html

Here are the cooler unit specs:
  • All aluminum 19-Row Oil Cooler Core with Mounting Brackets. Coated in a silver finish for corrosion resistance.
  • Core Size: 285mm x 150mm (11.2" x 5.9").
  • Core Thickness: 50mm (1.96").

Too tied up to snap quick pic of front of car? I'm curious to why SiriMoto didn't take any pictures when fitting product before release.

Sorry very tempting but .. why would you want to block the radiator at all, especially on the R?
Couldn't you install it inside behind left drivers' side lower panel like mishimoto's version etc/competor's?
and with that swap out the left panel for one that they provide with puchedout holes for increase airflow to oil cooler?
similar to this?
sorry it greddy that has the left grill puched out .. w/ 2 versions;

or vs replace the radiator completely to a high performance one from Japan:

or at from PRL: $339.99

Just food for thought as the research goes on.. I'm still debating on which set up myself. Yet open to you all's advice.

@forrestbb The effect that the oil cooler core has on the radiator's airflow is very minimal when mounted in this location, and the increase in oil cooling performance greatly outweighs any negative effect this position would have. Different mounting locations were tested and this was found to offer the best balance between installation simplicity and effectiveness, by allowing for maximum airflow and making the most of the large 19 Row core.

Just to add to this, I don't think the fog light "punch out" solution offers the best air flow. It also adds expense and complexity to the kit in my opinion. Placing the oil cooler right in the front grille area offers maximum airflow, especially when combined with the aftermarket honeycomb mesh grille mentioned in this thread.

Replacing the radiator with a high performance one is not a bad idea either, but we've found that oil temps are the #1 thing you need to reign in first on this new Civic platform.

Will you guys be sharing temp data on this (preferably from some track days)?

Also - can we add an oil temp gage

We do have this graph available on both our product page and earlier in this thread:

This graph was generated with real-world data from multiple SoCal track events, all recorded over the course of one Summer.

And yes, the oil filter pedestal features multiple ports, for which you can use to gather temperature and pressure measurements.

Will this work with a koyo rad on a type r. I already had fitment issues cause of my Mishimoto intercooler piping was so large compared to stock. That’s the reason Mishimoto designed their secondary rad cause of this. I don’t want another “bolt on” head ache if you know what I mean

The car we actually designed this on already had a Koyo radiator as well, so it should fit your Type-R without issue.
