Technically it's not considered a safety issue, so no recall will ever take place. I disagree, but I'm not in charge. Honda's doing all they can to sweep the issue under the rug.
And with Dealers charging like $2400 for resulting A/C work, they are not going to "kill the goose that lays the golden eggs".

I actually asked the guy at the dealership why there wasn't a recall and he said, "how can they do a recall, there aren't any parts available."

I was able to get a recharge so that 4-5 weeks of cool should take me to when they have the parts back or else through the worst of the summer before it all leaks out (that's how long the last recharge lasted before it blew hot again and they found the condenser issue).

Sad, but true. Can't do a recall if there are no parts. Otherwise you're waiting way too long for repair...like Ford did with their Takata repair (2.5 years from notification to parts being available) - and you're just alienating even more consumers at that point.

Hi all,

So upon exhaustive efforts we finally got Honda Canada to admit and acknowledge that the condensor and compressor does not fail within 9-months of driving, OR within 3-years of service from manufacturing date, as we only accrued only such low mileage of 1800km within that 9-months, so they have taken initiative to have the defective parts replaced and repaired. BUT, since the conversation with them and with the dealer, it has been over a month and the parts that they claimed they've ordered for our repair is still backed up and unavailable. So, from the date of the problem (June) to where we are in August, we have been driving with this hot
potato /lemon of a car with no a/c for over 2-months now......they really need to talk to or find another supplier for their parts....as I'm really worried that they're just going to continue to be sourcing and installing defective parts from the same place.

Will see how much longer this is going to take. This is taking up the whole summer of 2019.....frustrating...

I tried to find the leak myself with the soapy water trick, found nothing. I really don't feel like taking my whole front bumper off either just to check the condenser. This whole situation @#$% sucks. I mean who honestly has $500-$700+ to have this repair done? I know I don't. I've been saying this since I've had the issue, I don't believe I should have to pay for it to be fixed when it was nothing I intentionally did. I still feel HONDA/DEALERSHIPS should be held responsible for this. Not us.

How past your warranty are you? If you had any issues with the AC while the car was under warranty or very close to after the warranty expired you have a case to make with Honda to cover some or all of the cost.

Don't let Honda get away with selling these poorly designed/built ACs units.

They told me I was 11,000 miles over the warranty. I bought the car used with 45,000 miles on it unfortunately. I fought with my local dealer and I've had no luck whatsoever. It's bull***

Well this was unexpected. As I said in my first post a page or so back, my 2016 Civic seemed to have all the usual symptoms, but my dealership said the condenser was OK, no leaks. No punctures from crazy rocks in the road, etc. Huh. They spent pretty much the whole day on poor car -- first gauging how much 1234yf remained, then using dye to try to trace the leak, recharging, then TESTING the recharge to make sure they'd fixed it. They determined the leak was coming from 2 places: at a high-power hose seal, and the evaporator connector. (???? Eh, those terms might not be exact; I couldn't read my own handwriting later -- maybe it will ring true to someone more mechanically inclined than me :) ) The tech notes say something about loose suction line and discharge bolt and nut recovery. Anyway they replaced the suction-line rubber O-ring seals at 3 different spots. So basically some new O-rings did the trick. (??!!)

NO idea yet if that will solve the problem forever, but the A/C was nice n chilly on the drive home last night and all seemed back to normal.

As a side note, and I know this will be hit and miss for people, but I was lucky: My dealership was great. I was on literally my very last day of the 3-year warranty, and they didn't even try to charge me a dime, for anything related to A/C fix. All I paid was 20 bucks for an annual safety inspection that was due.

My compressor was failing, paper work from tech said 'front seal leaking' and that the entire compressor needed replacing, no evidence of damage from usual driving (rock chips etc.) It was about a $2K bill and my car was out of warranty by about 3 months.. luckily American Honda was generous and paid like 90% of the bill after I called and stated my case..and thankfully my dealer had the parts in stock. My service advisor said its been a common problem, hopefully this one lasts a couple years because I'm not ready for a new car

This is exactly what was happening to my car when I originally took it in, its because the refrigerant level is low, somewhere along your system its leaking, check my above post. My AC started doing this on my car at 39K miles

Hey guys,

Okay so we're at the Markham Honda dealer having the A/C parts replaced. Got the pictures providing serial parts numbers. Good news is that they're starting to use parts ending with A03, which are the latest and updated parts. They're still using the A01 condenser parts though.....which isn't promising....but will refer to the TSB A19-091 extended warranty should ANY issues continue after the repairs.

Thanks for the info! I have a 16' lx with 40k miles and the AC started blowing hot air for me. I called Honda Corporate on Friday 8/9 and they informed me about TSB A19-091 extended warranty. I'm taking my car in Saturday for an official diagnosis. Just curious, most of the cars you've seen come in with this issue, has it been the condenser? I'm worried it's going to be the compressor which will run me a couple bucks out of pocket...

Mine was the compressor which makes me worried about having the condenser going at some point.
