Hey guys, I recently tore the Achilles in my clutch leg and am unable to drive for at least the next few months. Besides disconnecting the battery, are there any other best practices for storing my car in my garage?

I'm in the NE and garage my car in the winter. Its under the house so doesn't freeze.

I left the battery to keep the system settings. I guess you could trickle charge it. Try Harbor Freight if you have them.

Fill the tank to avoid condensation.

Started in the spring without an issue. Had a shorter oil change interval than expected but didn't mind that part. Better that than foul oil.

don't do anything to it, just start it and let it idle for 10-15 mins every week or two

Have done this every autumn for the summer car’s annual hibernation....

Add fuel stabilizer to the tank and the fill up with non-ethanol gas.
Change oil so the car sits without dirty acidic oil in it.
Park it and don’t start it until you’re ready to get it out of storage. That just pollutes the oil with moisture and combustion byproducts. It will never get up to temperature for long enough to burn off all that shit.
Use a battery tender.
Wash and vacuum the car.
Fill tires to 45-50psi.
Dry indoor storage? Just throw large clean sheets or light car cover on the car to keep car clean.

The oil and filter change before storing is a good idea. Can't hurt.

When we go out in patrol, a lot of guys just leave their cars sitting in deployed parking for months. A small group out of those need a jump. If you start your car every month and let it idle for an hour or run a trickle charger as was previously mentioned, you won't have to worry about the battery. Cars can sit a long time w/o I'll effect... so long as you don't get rodents or something take up the engine bay as a home. The comment about filling the tank is sound advice too... as ethanol will tend to pull in moisture and a full tank will have less air that has moisture in it. Still... (shrug) I've never seen a car just sit a couple months that wouldn't start from bad gas.

Maybe a battery tender... that’s about it

Think of how long cars sit from the factory, transit and eventually onto lots

My Si was an 18 leftover with 0 issues

I was recovering from rotator cuff surgery and could drive for about 2-3 months before I was cleared. Never did anything to my car. It started up just fine. No issues. Now, it will be longer for you probably. Maybe at worst, trickle charge the battery. Can anyone drive it? Even if it’s just around the hood. Couldn’t hurt. Best of luck on the recovery.
