Dont get me wrong I still love the car. But I am about over manual transmissions. and even then i still love manual transmissions, been driving them over 30 years now, it is just where I live.

I live in a metro area with 450k people, the problem is that the area is all mountains and there are only two main roads going through like 5 counties. The two main highway make a big cross and are only 2 lanes wide and are the only way in and out of the entire area from south carolina all the way to tennessee. there are locally only 3 main side roads which are also only 2 lane and everything else is back roads that are small and twist and turn and are very slow.

So every day for years now the main highways are backed up every day ...every freakin day all day for miles and miles. week ends are horrible. so everyone gets off and onto the secondary roads which there are only 3 of and you got it they are blocked up for miles and miles and hours and hours. you can go anywhere in this area period with out sitting in traffic.

I put a new tune on the other day and wanted to go test it out. I drove around the entire county 2 hours and could never get above 35. Mind you its a trip that should take 20 mins tops.

Right now it is to the point driving a manual around here is so aggravating that the R just sits and I end up taking the automatic ford. Mind you my ford is a beater car that I throw lawn mowers in.

I love the R and I love manuals but where I live... makes me not want to drive it. My buddies that all had Rs got rid of theirs and I just realized they all have automatics now...hummmm. Never thought of it wonder if that was a reason for them as well. Even the local cars meets most have automatics....I need to ask I think its the area makes owning a manual a pain in the behind.

It's why i have the ILX as a DD lol. The R is comfortable and even has a really light clutch but it's just not fun to drive in traffic.

Traffic down here in LA is brutal.

traffic is reasonably nice where i live but still had the dealers courtesy automatic and found it so much nicer commute to work.

I cant help but think in todays world, manuals are on borrowed time. ever growing traffic and EV/hybrid on the horizon... autos just seem to be be the way things are going.

might be worth keeping the CTR as a second car and finding HPDE/track/autox event to go to enjoy the car. thats where it shines, not stuck in traffic.

From your forum posts, I'd recommend you invest more time in more activities instead of the Type R car forum and maybe the car won't bore you so much.

I find myself feeling like I'm finally getting to enjoy my car maybe 1 or 2 times every two weeks. I still haven't gotten on it hard and I've owned it for months. I'm just too busy. So the drivetrain excites me and I'm not sure I'll ever even be able to fully utilize it.

Sounds to me like you have to set apart some time for some road trips. Get out of the city and enjoy your awesome car.

Swap cars every other day. Find a twisty road for the weekend. Add an MX-5 into your driving routine.

Local traffic is pretty nasty but I can still schedule myself around it. Getting in early, leaving early, or getting in late and leaving late. When I do get caught in traffic, the manual isn't ideal but it's not really bad at all. I had a manual, then had an auto and now I'm back in manual so I knew what I was getting into. I try and stay in low gear and creep and having instant passing power is really nice.

Also, I can still find plenty of back roads when I'm not in a hurry to get someplace. Driving slow just makes the chances when you get to drive fast that much sweeter.

Autos are so boring.

Dont spend as much time on here as one would think. Plus if you read my day in the life posts youll see i enjoy the car more then most do.

I’ve recently noticed an uptick on some of the roads in traffic.. and this one bridge I go over which is grated feels TERRIBLE at low speeds - the car vibrates so much it actually gives me a headache - that it pissed me off one day. Like I was just wishing for an automatic because the vibrations at low speed (< 5 mph) on the bridge were seriously hell.

A few months ago I picked this thing up from someone selling it and while it is the opposite of fun it is actually a nice riding car. The only thing I absolutely cannot stand is the 4 speed automatic because it shifts slower than me in my CTR. It’s gonna come in handy during the Winter months where the CTR won’t need to worry about salty roads :)

Honda Civic 10th gen I think Im finally tired of the type R... at least its drive train. 50FD6E5B-E856-449C-976A-5D1A1DAA7DE6

I alternate between it and my CTR for driving duties. The upside is when I get back into my CTR it feels much more exciting and enjoyable :)

Traffic in this car is horrible but when there isn’t any it’s a blast.

Side note: My CTR is wider than my RAV4. I always felt like this car feels so large in narrow areas and it definitely is.:dunno:

I see what you're saying for sure. I wanted this car (and I still do!!!) but the lame drives I'm able to do, which is mostly commuting, just sucks so much that it makes me 'sad' to be driving the car. Once I pay this off, I think it'll be time for an electric something being that I rarely get to go over 45mph for days at a time.

i also see you have an ILX like me lol.

Alternating cars really does make you appreciate it much more. It also makes me not constantly want to upgrade or mod stuff too.
Every time i get in, it's like getting in it for the first time again.

I think part is, I keep modding it to go faster and traffic goes slower. Manual aside, like you there are days at a time I cant go over 45 because traffic just sucks. Its like wasting a car.
