I just noticed that my steering wheel is peeling. Is that a normal wear or there’s something wrong with it? My car Is been always garaged since day one. Bought it on September 2018 and it has 420 miles right now. I’m taking my car to the dealer and see if they can cover it under warranty. Here’s hoping they can do something about it and don’t come with some lame excuses!

It's not unusual, and the dealerships will cover it under warranty.

I have this on mine in a few places and assumed I let the wheel drag across my wedding band or something. I can't imagine a dealer would replace any kind of tear under warranty unless it was in a crazy place you never touch. Let me know how this works out as mine bugs me, but only because I think the damage was self inflicted.

I have the same issue with mine at the 7 o'clock position. I will wait until warranty is almost up to bring it in to the dealer.

You most likely scratched it with zipper pocket on pants/shorts etc etc. I had one on mine it was really bad but after some time you cant really see it anymore you can just feel it.

This is wear and will not be covered under warranty. It's caused by an edge being dragged across the leather - likely a wedding band, fingernail, etc.

I also have a pretty severe mark at around the 7 o'clock position due to a stupid ID card that I had to wear, it's such an eyesore. I'm looking at the Buddy Club all leather wheel though to get the interior looking fresh again.

Mine was doing the same thing and it gave me a reason to upgrade to a carbon fiber steering wheel. Lol.

That’s not peeling. Something rubbed against it getting in or out of the car. Very common which is why I always move the seat back when taking it in for service in the case a larger person tries to squeeze in before adjusting the seat.

I did the same thing to the leather steering wheel in my Camaro... I have a leather jacket with zippers on the cuffs - they scratched it and it looked just like that. I never wear that coat any more while driving.

Like others, I had the same thing, and it drove me OCD crazy (it was from my work ID badge holder, the sharp edge, dragging on the wheel while getting in/out).
I also changed out my steering wheel to a faux CF one. And also, don't wear my badge on my pocket anymore...

i wonder if it's really even "leather" probably "pleather". Don't know if real leather even is used in cars below a pretty high price point.

Just got my car back. Took a little long to get the parts but it’s finally done. The service advisor said that the tearing was probably by wearing a wedding band or using hand lotions but i don’t use any. We don’t know what might have caused but he finally agree to warranty it after seeing the cars mileage.
