I think it's targeted for different types of people so it should be ok.

however, this rendering makes the C8 look amazing.

For collectibility. The new C8 corvette is. Not sure about the 2020 supra. The CTR only reminds me of the Lancer Evo, the majority of them sit around $20,000 used. There's a few that are worth $60,000+ but only on the something like the first and last car of production, or limited production.

Finally it’s going to be mid engine since 1975 Chevy been talking about it but it never happened the original plan was to have a rotary engine
Live intro in Cali, and pictures of the launch are out today. have had my deposit in since October. Gotta clear some garage space :) I think it looks a lot better then the rendering, actually, and with the lump under glass. Initial release is dual clutch auto only-that's disappointing! I'm going to wait. There's just no way they will not have a 3-pedal option, I would assume on the higher performance model. Surely it will keep the Z06 nameplate...

I went from wanting a Supra to wanting a C8. Toyota just lost my business.
I went from wanting a Cayman to wanting a C8. Even for 10k extra, I'd take the C8. As Z06_Pilot, I hope for a manual. I'll let things cool down for 2-3 years.

As a previous z06 owner this car looks dope. But I really need to see reviews and test drive one. At the same time if I consider one, I’d rather wait for a Z06.

But wouldn't the supra smoke the ctr?
Who knows they wont time it. But even so with mark ups counted the 60k more for the supra... i can buy parts for the R still smoke the supra and live nicely for a year....or um get a supra.

This is nuts guys this one sold to SF Toyota for $80k and I was able to confirm the dealer does not even have a buyer yet! This is nuts! Even a dealer is still paying $20k markup.

We bought a LE Supra out of state and sold it local for 15 over. Real transaction are much lower. This is just a rebadged Z4 after all.

There are supras selling at MSRP, but the launch edition specifically is what's getting a lot of markup. But even in launch editions, there are a few dealers selling it at msrp as well. You just have to look. With the price being so close to a C8 though, the C8 does look like a lot more value for money in my eyes.

mwaaaahahahaha!
https://www.autoblog.com/2019/08/09/toyota-supra-tada-interview/

I guess they realized their car doesn't sell that well? And they think about upgrading it.
If they released this 5-10 years ago could have sold better. A bit too late now given how the market evolved, let alone the C8 that pulled the rug from underneath the feet of several manufacturers.

Can't stop at thinking how good it looked the FT-1 concept and what it ended up in the production version... If they kept that design and had a 4-500 hp engine car would have been a winner.

I recently read about the Supra hotlap at Buttonwillow. Similar time with the Type-R. And the point with this car is...?

I actually ran into one in the wild yesterday. It was black, just like my CTR. I was able to mostly keep up in a straight line at WOT, but I won't deny, the engine/exhaust on the Supra sounds insanely mean.

Groooooooowl.... pop pop.

One rolled up to me yesterday. After exchanging nods of approval we checked out each other's ride from all angles.

It did sound mean but I was disappointed by it's appearance. Though far from ugly, I think appearance is on par with it's performance numbers..."boring". IMHO, If I was in the market for one I wouldn't pay a dime over $48k.

Supra is 10.14 pounds per horsepower, Type R is 10.18 pounds per horsepower. Not a flawless comparison but going by power vs weight Supra has a tiny edge on the R. When you add things like RWD and not having to do your own perfect stick shifts, the Supra will probably always win from a dead stop and usually win rolling races. Now if the Supra was driven by a fat guy and the R a skinny guy the R could probably win some rolling races ;)
RWD technically is only an advantage for launching and does incur more powertrain loss due to the driveshaft that runs the length of the car.

The 10.14 pounds per horsepower vs the Civic's 10.18 might not be accurate as the engine is most likely putting out more power. Remember that a Dyno outputted 340 HP to the wheels which would equate to something along the lines of 380-390 to the crank (remember that 385 that BMW said about the Z4, seems pretty in line with that*).

So while the Civic might be putting about 295 HP to the wheels stock, the Supra does 340. Revising the computations we get 9.99 pounds per horsepower for the Supra and about 10.56 for the Civic (using 295, if someone's stock CTR has a substantially better number on a dyno let me know, I haven't really kept tabs on that). Granted I know dyno numbers can't be compared against each other, it's still no contest.

If we want to ignore powertrain losses, it'll look even worse since the Supra is probably outputting around 385 to the crank* (vs the 335 they claim) so it ends up being 8.82 pounds per horsepower vs 10.18 of the CTR.

*I feel like there is a possibility that Toyota agreed to rate the car at 335 and let BMW rate the Z4 at the full 385 while both cars may have produced the exact same power. The 0-60 times kind of support this too since the adjusted power to weight ratios go hand in hand between the Z4 and Supra.
