Hi guys,

After a tiring battle of emailing California dealers, both in state and out of state, my search for Civic Type R has finally ended today after 6 months. Long story short, I emailed Rick Nemeth at Freeway Honda in Santa Ana, California. He told me they were selling their Type R's at +$4k dealer mark up w/o accessories. After about 2 hours of emailing back and forth, I was able to lock in a 3 year lease with $0 down and less than $3k mark up. Considering many dealerships are still charging $3-10k in markup w/ or w/o accessories, I had to jump on the deal since I probably wasn't going to beat that and it was the color I wanted. The dealership also had a Black and Sonic Grey CTR in the showroom with sticker of about $44k (I definitely did not pay this much)

I also have a deposit on a MSRP black type R at a Wisconsin that would not be ready until mid-late August. Shipping alone was already $1k so I really wasn't saving a whole lot after getting it transported here, dealing with a rental car for 2 weeks, and registering it with the CA DMV.

He was no nonsense type of salesman and didn't sell me anything I didn't want and didn't try to jack up the price when I got there. I was in and out of the dealership in about 45 min - 1 hour. So if you're in OC and still looking for a CTR closer to MSRP, give Rick a call and he will work with you! Also, tell him Jonathan C. sent you. His info is:

Best of luck to others still on their CTR quest!

Best,
Jonathan

Wow, congrats! This was back in Dec. 2017, but I was told that Honda Financial would not let you lease a CTR due to the ADM. Did you have to cough up a lot of money for cap cost reduction? $23K buy-out is a no brainer -- you can exercise it and sell it for a lot more in 3 years.

I think leasing is dealer dependent, some dealers said they would only finance and not lease. I just got lucky I suppose. The dealer let me have it with $0 down so I didn't have to put anything for the cap cost reduction. I'm definitely gonna buy it out at the end of the lease with the intent of keeping it but who knows what might be out in 3 years.

Awesome. I don't think I have come across anyone else who is leasing the CTR. Is Honda Financial Services the lessor, or did the dealer direct you to a different financial institution? Just curious. Thanks!

I was expecting it to be Honda Financial Services, but it was actually the dealership I took delivery from

Yeah, I also really haven't seen many people lease but it just makes more financial sense for me right now

I don’t think any purchase that happens in this forum makes financial sense for anyone. But we all do it anyway.
