I also lived in Ohio for 6 years (Now living in Miami) I enjoyed my time in Ohio (specifically Columbus) There are no state inspections in either state.... Ohio or Florida.

Here in Pennsylvania we still have annual inspections, I believe that you need at least 2/32" to pass. Personally, I never go past 4/32", with wide, low aspect ratio tires, they get very hairy in the rain when worn. I won't run a tire down to the limits, good tread is cheap life insurance.

Honestly that's scary. There could literally be thousands of drivers running around on bald tires, just waiting to crash into you at the first drops of rain or snow.

Say what you will about the "commie" state of NY, but some things make sense. annual safety inspections are one of them.

"Say what you will about the "commie" state of NY, but some things make sense. annual safety inspections are one of them."

Most states don't have them:

"15 states have a periodic (annual or biennial) safety inspection program, while Maryland and Alabama require a safety inspection on sale or transfer of vehicleswhich were previously registered in another state."

Would love to see some objective stats proving the worth of "safety inspections". A real money maker for the tire stores and quick lube joints.

That said i believe law enforcement personnel can still issue tickets for unsafe vehicle conditions and would not be opposed to them towing vehicles with bald tires, inoperative brakes, etc..

I would not be surprised to find that unsafe, inattentive drivers are the cause of the vast majority of accidents; not faulty or under-maintained equipment.

Going to be a difficult thing to examine with stats. Are there stats collected on the number of deaths, injuries, and property damage due to poorly maintained cars? I don't know about the other states, but the NY inspection goes well beyond tires and emissions. It covers lights, brakes, steering/suspension and glass.

While yes, it can be a source of income for repair shops (some offer free inspections to get business) I don't see it as a bad thing.

In states that don't have safety inspections, even if the police can issue a ticket for driving without working brake lights, they aren't checking people's brakes. Its going to be too late for that.

Partially agree, however, next time you walk through a parking lot, look at the tires some drivers are using, especially the mini-Vans, you'll see some scary stuff.

Oh trust me.... I have seen my fare share of WTF things in Miami down here... from no brake lights that function to cars without hoods or bumpers.

NTL, they did their job here. OEM tires are rated for 10K, under normal driving conditions. There are a handful of top reasons why people get into crashes, but take any ONE of those and add it too having near bald tires and it's lights out. They're not there to guess who or who can not drive, they are there to do a job. Personally, I wouldn't drive around on those myself and would fail myself on a personal inspection level.

Everyone knows you can find another car that fails something, but you are not going to win that in court, at a inspection site or any other level. Would suggest replacing for your own safety, not the State of NY.

Same reason they didn't scrape the sticker, they gave you a chance to rectify the finding. Post isn't right on the account you used them for numerous AC events, and titled it that your R "Failed" inspection. It didn't, the wear and tear items did, and you wore them out.

Well my post title was meant as kind of a joke. I said it was clickbait. lol.

I'm not complaining about the tires at all. I Just wanted to share my experience.

Now I know why I don't live in NY state
I think they need to pay more taxes in NY state
so they can fix the roads:banghead:. The tires look somewhat marginal, but I though they would of passed.

Click-bait is/are, misleading advertisements "on purpose" so I don't appreciate that term on a forum people use for information. Understand you wanted to post, but there a a handful of ways to state something without implying there's something wrong with the Type R in a forum title.

Would be like me saying "MY Type R died on the freeway yesterday". Only to go on and state yeah, I didn't fill it up with gas, and it did exactly what it should do. You did have one point, and should have been the thread's title. "Suggest rotating tires more frequently". Factory wear is ~10K, they should be rotated more often depending on driving conditions (track).

But in South Carolina you have to pay an annual property tax on vehicles? That's stupid.
