The pocket along the lower drivers side of the center console seems obviously made for a phone to me, considering it's right next to the USB port and the cubby is long enough for a reasonably sized phone (although I fit my large 1+ 7 pro there, too).

Why does no one else put their phone here? You're all making it too complicated.
I agree, I definitely thought that part was built for the driver's phone. No spot like that on the passenger side.

That being said I keep mine in my pocket unless charging or needing AA, then it goes in the spot you mentioned.

Either the cup holder or the driver's door handle if I have cups in the holder.

In my briefcase. Bluetooth connects. However, I listen to podcasts so I connect with cable to iPod touch and store under console. Near USB under there is a slot. I use a short cable. Also keep my parking card there so I don't for get to take it with me! If in or under the armrest I will forget it.

One of the more expensive solution, but I love the near factory look it gives. I get questions about it each time I'm giving someone a lift.

For me, under the climate control using a magnetic cable. Since I usually use Android auto or carplay anyway, the magnet makes connecting either phone easier.
Of course, I matched the color of the cable to the rest of the theme :)

Normally under the climate control, but my phone barely fits, makes it worse if I want to connect the cable to use CarPlay.

I’ve been looking for some type of functional mount that will hold my phone (iPhone XS max) without using a suction cup, or something that doesn’t block the a/c vent.

I bought a silicon jaw type of thing and stuck it to the top of the dashboard, but I don't like it much. My phone, Samsung Note 8, doesn't sit/fit well in the hole under the climate control (where my sunglasses also are) and my driving is too erratic for the little spot next to my right knee. The cup holder is the best option but the way it sits there is it sticks up a bit so I have to beware of the slidy part of the console. Really, I don't like any of those options. The big center console hole is used if there's not a beverage there.

Yea you’re gonna have to expand on how you set that up, and also on that shifter and where I can get one

This is exactly what I've been looking for. Would you mind expanding on how you put it together (I'm not familiar Kuda or Proclip).

The Kuda mount can be purchased here I believe, though I went thru ebay and got it shipped from Germany since I was having issues with the U.S. site:

http://www.kudausa.com

The holder itself I got from Proclipusa. You can choose a custom fitting best suited for your phone:

http://www.proclipusa.com

I opted against wireless charger since I needed the USB to get Android Auto to work. The top of the Kuda mount slides under the passenger red trim, the left between headunit unit, and right is screwed in with the glove compartment opened (can't see it when closed). Some have used 3m tape instead of screwing the piece in. Proclip screws on to the Kuda and angle can be adjusted accordingly.
