hey guys

I just got back from the field in the army and came home to a surprise from my wife! She got me a few things for the car, something I never thought she would do!

Any body else have some supportive significant other out there?

When my wife and I were dating 15 years ago I was in the habit of buying a different car every year. Each car would get a stereo, wheels, tires, exhaust, intake, and tune. Sometimes the stereo could be switched from car to car. Sometimes the wheels would fit other cars. Obviously I wasted a lot of money on mods. She came up with a compromise - Switch cars every 3 years or so and just do a tune. I always have a car payment, but at least I'm not throwing money away on other mods. She's supportive of my love of new car experiences, but she helped me be more balanced.

My wife has been great. I had a 2016 ext and my Harley. She loved the Harley but was starting to get antsy about me riding it. (Basically commuting with it was a non starter, I was averaging like 1 out of 4 trips someone almost hitting me).

Finally we agreed upon getting rid of the bike, but she really wanted me to have something that brings me joy (I commute about an hour each way daily). She was skeptical when I started talking SI, she really pushed me hard to get a type R (she thought I would regret stopping at SI).

We finally agreed upon getting an SI and doing some custom work, splitting difference with cost. Now one year in, I got the exact car I wanted for around 25 and we are both happy.

She has been a great help keeping me sane. Hey babe where should I put my hondata and prl stickers... Umm babe you are an adult, put them on your laptop instead. Hey babe check out these retro louvers, ummm it's not the 80s babe, get the led fog lights instead, hey babe what if I got eyelid tint with something on it, umm you are an adult, just get personalized license plate.

She enables just enough of my impulses to keep me happy and limits some of my worse impulses. SI with supportive spouse checking in.

I gave up on finding a PMM R for around MSRP. Actually started craigslisting used Evo’s/STI’s. Even started looking at the Hyundai Veloster N. Wife always encouraged me to not give up, even helped find potential R’s out in the market. When we found one, she even matched my down payment Haven’t had a car I liked in about 5 years(sold my RHD rx7). So she was really supportive and wanted me to get something I liked.

@I Am Noobmaster69 thanks for your service. We couldn’t enjoy our cars like we do if you didn’t do what you do! Thank your wife for us too. She’s as important as you are especially since she supports you in many ways obviously.

My wife is supportive in her own way. Like @Fathomless my wife keeps me sane. She reins me in when I get too crazy. She also knows the kind of car I “need” and nudges me that way even though she would never want the same. She’s also the reason I ended up with the “R”. I travel a lot, so it’s great knowing she’s home taking care of things so I don’t have to worry. She’d never buy parts for my car though. Ever. That’s awesome.

My girlfriend paid for my rear camber kit without me knowing it so there is that! She is getting a ring next year, she doesn't know that!

My girlfriend was against any modifications at first. After she saw how much I take care of my car, the research I put into things, and also the need (after burning out the clutch). She finally approved and is very happy to see how much happier I am with the car. I have noticed she has been asking questions about some aftermarket parts too
