For a long time many manufactures implemented a flash counter and other stuff to detect tampering in their ECM.
I know that VW/AUDI their scanners have that functionality.
Asking a buddy who works on a Honda Shop.

17 Si not tuned at all, took to dealer at 53,768 miles. They said I had flashed my ECU to stock at the current milage. There's a rod straight through the front of my block. Honda auto- void my entire warranty saying"these cars are pretty much all electronic, with you tampering with the ECM your warranty is no longer valid. " Once again, I never touched the ECU, but I did catch the dealer trying to scam $350 for an engine tear down for a warranty claim on my extended warranty, so I called them and asked why I was having to pay for the tear down, they didn't know what I was talking about, so they called the dealership then told me dealership would be calling me. The next day dealership called and said that they would be using the manufacturer's warranty, like they were doing new a favor... next thing I know im getting a call saying I'll have to foot the bill for$7000, I feel like I was sabotaged for catching them red handed. Supposedly, I flashed the ECU at the current mileage. I have neither the means nor want to VOID my warranty. Everything that I have changed had been cosmetic except the exhaust.

Is the car used?

So you never flashed/tuned the ECU before?

If that is the case did lug that engine (pushed it hard on a overdrive gear on lower rpms).

Sorry guys bad news. Asked my friend that works at a Honda Service Center and this is his exact reply:

"Just to confirm with my shop floorman he said that he can tell by a program I.D in using the HDS. He said once you tune the car the original program I.D will be replaced with another one and can't be retrieved by flashing it back to stock"

Basically what I understand is that Honda stores your car with your ECU program ID. Everytime a flash is done without using the HDS that program ID gets out of sync with Honda internal listings.

In other words if flash on your own you are f**k.

This may be true, however I bought the car with 36,071 miles on it, the only thing that's ever been plugged into the OBD was a carware for like 20 minutes(diagnostics) and then I have Spark+ plugged in so my car had wifi. I even asked if the previous owner could've flashed it, they said they never checked... but it was reflashed to stock with current mileage, which is bs... never tuned this car. This is a purely cosmetic modified car to my personal tastes.

If that is the case there is no doubt that the previous owner flashed it.

Used cars are sold as is typically. Even with the remaining factory warranty.
I actually got them to write a "we owe" that if anything was non certifiable pre- owned they erod fix it. However, American Honda will not take my calls, nor call me back.

Thats so fucked up how bad dealerships screw over the consumers. You dont even have to have your ecu flashed to have your warranty voided for flashing your ecu :what:

probably was. thats why i wont buy a used honda...theres a good chance it was flashed/tuned before. and then...rod through block becomes a real possibility.

Check this out I showed it to the owner, everything highlighted is either incorrect, not checked, or n/a. But he wouldn't even look passed the first page . Emphasis on #6.

Im the buyer and they had my wife sign this without my knowledge???

Yeah I think it's getting to the point where I'd consider contacting BBB and lawyer up, if financially able, if they aren't going to stand by the warranty because of all this. Also with them having your wife sign, instead of you, shouldn't be binding if the vehicle is solely in your name.Mine is solely in my name and has no bearing on my wife, so yours shouldn't either. Sorry to hear all this man, truly sucks. I just bought my 2017 Si in May-Certified used from Honda stealership. Maybe I need to ask them if they are sure mine's never had the ECU messed with it. Hate to fall into the same thing if something happens.
