A proper intake system should not throw a code. People on the forum have all sorts of brands of SRI/CAI intakes and I haven't heard many issues. There is one system that seems to come up more than others and that is the ones from AEM. Some people seem to have no issues others have had issues. PRL has a good reputation but costs more. As far a short ram vs cold air vs drop in it's like this:
SRI-more turbo noise, more heat soak, stock or possibly less hp, possible water intrusion. (PRL has stated they only created the SRI for people because they asked for one and it will heat soak)
CAI-more turbo noise, most hp gain, cooler iat's, possible hydrolock (that can be mitigated somewhat with a cover on the filter) generally the most expesive option
Drop-in-stock turbo noise levels (maybe a tiny bit louder), stock or slightly better iat's, small hp gain, uses stock airbox so water intrusion should be almost impossible.

Personally I went with the PRL drop in kit and am very happy with it. I live in an area where the weather can change drastically and heavy water puddles can be an issue along with snow, etc. I use my car as a daily but wanted something that could let the stock system breath a little better but still keep the OEM look for the most part with the least possibility of issues.
If we have an upgraded intercooler would heat soak be much of an issue? The turbo technically heats the air as it passes through anyways which is why it goes through a cooler, so if we were to upgrade our intercooler would a short ram have much of a heat issue?

In short, no. I have a prl SRI and stock intercooler and my IAT2 have not increased much if at all. From what I read it's easier on the turbo to compress the colder air but I doubt you'll see increased IAT2 temps from swapping to a SRI. It would never hurt to upgrade the intercooler while your at it :)

ive modded a ton of cars so here:

-true CAI is like hanging down in front of the car away from engine and makes more power but is a PITA to clean
-short ram CAI looks sexy, makes some power, gets heat soaked which you wont notice because your stock one does too and youll get power
-THE MOST NOTICEABLE (and best) THING FROM INTAKES IS THE TURBO GOES WHOOOOOOOSH (rly loud)
-moving maf means needs tune on turbo car (True CAI needs tune, short ram does not. both benefit massively from it powerwise)

get the short ram for cleaning's sake, and with a tune (or without) its just much more worth it when only 4 extra hp is on the line

BTW, IF YOU LIVE WHERE IT FLOODS OCCAISIONALLY, TRUE CAI INTAKES WATER. PUDDLES CAN BE DEEPER THAN THEY LOOK AND THEN BY CIVIC (but this is pretty rare if you arent like...totally unobservant. consider it tho. another reason short ram is better to me. Plus i know someone who had engine damage from a true CAI + texting and driving into a swamp kinda ordeal)

Hey, I'm new to the car game, just got my si last monday. I'm thinking about putting a 27won CAI into my car. Seems easy and people say they love it but I want your opinion.

Everywhere on youtube is trying to dispute that they have any gain, and that they can cause check engine lights, and that you need a tune for them to work.

Is there any validity there? I want to make my car perform better.

Does it make any different sound? More of a wooshing sound right?

Also, what's the difference between the CAI and SRI (short ram intake) and what do you prefer, and works best for our 1.5T cars.

Thank you so much. If you do have a CAI or SRI, please tell me which you have, your review on the product, and any recommendations feel free to leave them!

Thanks!
Neither, short ram raises IAT, CAI might keep it about the same. The factory intake isn't very restricted. Running the air into a 275° turbo and compressing it to 20 psi is going to heat it a lot, to the extent that turbo inlet temperature is a minor thing. Don't waste your money. The intercooler is where the performance gains are to be had

Biggest gains are losing the CAT and Hondata. Then it's intercooler. After that it's turbo upgrade and alcohol fueling. Intakes and Cat backs are a waste of $$ until that stuff is done.

My first 3 mods all done in the same day... prl cai and intercooler with pipes for the future lol and a exhaust I don't launch or even go over 5000 rpms I just don't. It's not a race car to me.. but I'm happy driving it for sure. Old thread just adding my 2 pennies.. had mine for 16 days now.
