After getting back from Afganistan, I was headed home on leave to Phoenix, AZ from Ft. Benning, GA.
I set off from GA July 12th, taking I-20 west to I-10 then to state highways. Total distance was just under 1,800mi and took 27 and a half hours straight thru. According to the dash, I averaged 41.1mpg running regular fuel (87/88). Gas receipts totalled $96 and change. The drive was comfortable and I only stopped for gas or the restroom. From PHX, my girlfriend and I went to spend a few days around San Diego (Coronado, Zoo, hot air ballooning in Temecula).
Headed to Indiana on I-40 stopping at Petrified Forest Natl. Park and a few other stops on Route 66. The stops made this leg of the trip longer at 29hrs. After I dropped her off at home, I had to haul ass back to base before the sign-in deadline. Knocked 45min off my previous record at 7hrs 45min.
Trip totals were ~$220 in gas, ~64hrs, and 5,115 miles start-to-finish. Vicki held up great and the ride was smooth. Mounted my phone just under the rearview and played Netflix most of the way. Brought a ton of shit back but even with the added weight I still averaged 40.9mpg coming back. My buddy said I should've gotten the Civic Touring... but where's the fun in that?
