My CTR goes into limp mode whenever my gas tank is less than half full and I always get overheating issues even though I have upgraded to a Mishimoto Intercooler. I recently ordered the ebay special grill to get more airflow into the engine; let's see if that helps. If not, I'm thinking I might have to get an upgraded oil cooler and turbo blanket.

For reference, I'm running Mishimoto Intercooler and Intake, PRL front and downpipe, Greddy SP HG exhaust, Ktuner v1.2, Eibach front and rear sway bars, Eibach Pro Springs, Project Mu Club racer pads, Titan TS5's on RC1's 265/35/18, SRF brake fluid, and aftermarket rotors (forgot the brand).
An intercooler doesn’t keep the engine cool—it actually increases the need for more cooling. Colder air charge means more oxygen density, more oxygen requires more fuel to match, more burned fuel and more power means more heat is generated. As mentioned, an intercooler also heats air going into radiator as well as blocking it.

Hey dude! Was wondering if you have that gold heat tape wrapped around your intake tube? Do you have it elsewehere on the car too? I am about to install an HKS oil cooler to begin working to combat the overheating issues I am having. I have been tracking the car in the Texas summer heat and that is no bueno. The only other mod I have is the high-flow Ebay grill. After the oil cooler I plan on doing the intercooler as well and ultimately a vented hood like yours.

Do you daily your car with those hood louvers? I am worried about the rain messing up the electrical components with the holes in the hood. Did you cut your hood yourself?

Do you have that secondary race radiator from Mishimoto> Have you heard anything about it? thanks for all your insight!

I've been running stock pads on track for a while as I work for Honda and get them cheap, but as the car and my driving with the car is improving, I need something better. what do people recommend as a track oriented front pads for the FK8?

How do the Project Mu Club Racers compare to these? I'm planning to install them in the rear this weekend.
Not as good but they're better than stock pads.

Winmax W5 are good though.

Hard to really give my impressions because I only had them last me about 3 track days before they wore completely down. I am not sure if the pad was to blame for the short lifespan, my driving, improper setup, idk. While I did have them for the short period of time I did think initial bite was significantly better over stock. I felt more confident and experienced little fade which could have been due to Motul RBF660 and not the pad. I thought they were a good pad but hard to justify the price when they only lasted me 3 days. I'd say they're a really good street/light track pad.

ST43s are much more suited as a track day pad and should last much longer comparatively. Bite is similar but the ST43 modulation wasn't as good IMO.
I personally haven't used any Ferrodo or Winmax pads as of yet but a lot of the NorCal CTR guys seem to be really liking the W5 compound.

I have run stock pads quite a bit like you, they are really good for a street pad, fronts last me 3 track days at least. For the price I pay for them it's reasonable. Now with R888r tires I have more grip so now I have been running pagid yellow in the front and back DTC 30 un back. Crazy braking power, so far very happy and the fronts have been quiet on street. The DTC 30 I only hear a fant squeal wen almost stopped and only if window is down. So I don't Swap them out between track days which is cool.

Thanks, I was looking for the ST43's but they seem quite difficult to get hold of here in the UK so i'll try the W5's too.

To be fair, the stock pads are actually quite good for street/mild track use.

Jzilla Track Day (Miatas Before The Gap event)
5 sessions X approximatley 12 laps per session X roughly 2 miles per lap = APPROXIMATELY 120 miles
Temperature range 78 - 96 sunny-dry.
Bone stock 2018 with 265/35ZR-18 MICHELIN PILOT SPORT 4S XL
Climbed out of a track Miata after 10+ years and into the R. To be honest I didn't know what to expect going from a RWD car with less than 100HP to a FWD car pushing 300. This was the first time on the track in the car so I would put it at a 8/10th effort. The car is quite simply amazing and it took about 5 laps to get a better feel for it. Started on a full tank and the day ended at about 1/4 and had no starvation issues. Last few sessions were well into the 90's and with an instructor (familiar with the R since he has one) we did put down some pretty great laps. Zero overheating issues. I stand by my belief that you could run this car at 8/10th for any event like this and not have any issues. But --- if you expect to go out and wring its neck running at 6000 RPM+ and squeezing every bit of life out of it lap after lap at 90+ degrees - well, I expect she wouldn't like that much... [remember I just climbed out of a race Miata so I know the difference]. Tires got crazy greasy when the track temps soared but that was my fault going out with the pressures (much) too high. No, they aren't "R" compounds but for a tire that got me home in the rain they aren't bad either.

Other take aways:
Seats are great! I had no desire to come home and order a harness bar or anything. With full race seats and 5 point harnesses in the Miata I still had a sore left leg by the end of a good track day. I never, ever felt like I was getting tossed around. Probably the difference between 2018 suspension technology and 1997 suspension technology?
Speaking of money - I did NOT spend my time driving home building a list of sh** I was going to buy to make it better/faster/whatever. In the Miata it was always just that, "If I only had ____ then I could take that ________ at."
Speaking of HP the car is very fast and would certainly be much (much) faster in more capable hands than mine. But, damn the new Miata's ain't doing too bad... And HOLY-COW those Honda S2000 boys can go!

So, looking forward to another track day this fall and I simply love the car!
FWIW I was NOT in love with it until I hit that R button and hit the track!
I find the steering when on the road less than spot-on.

Last - I decided it was time to say goodbye to the Miata because every friggin car out there today has 200+HP and I got tired of spending more time looking in the mirrors than looking ahead at the track. Is the R thee car that I was seeking? I think so but time will tell. It certainly held its own against what I had hoped it would/expected it would.

That's my take and it is 100% my opinion.
Yours may differ.

This is what my rotors and pads (top ones in the picture) look like after 2 track days with stock pads.

Pad material is embedded in the rotors and pads look glazed. These were my first track days ever so I’m probably being too rough on the brakes I’m guessing, must be over heating the pads? Also this was with traction/stability control left on so that may also be contributing.

I don't reccomend W6. I needs too much heat to start biting and it's horrible before it gets to temp. People that run W6 usually ride on the brakes on the opening lap to build heat, but the CTR does not allow you to run on the brakes 9it cuts throttle). All others are great, ST43 still being my favorite.

Hey.
I don't have the gold tape anywhere. I just moved to TX so I need to revamp my cooling system. I added the hood vents and will add some thermal tape/wrap on the oil pan and downpipe. I'm also installing a turbo blanket. However, I'm not expecting to solve the issue, just mitigate a bit further.

I don't daily my car anymore and yes, I cut the hood myself. It's a PITA tbh, but it's a cheap mod that should be effective. I don't think you would have any issues with rain.

As far as i know, that secondary radiatior did not help much (USR tested it).

Best.
