So I just found out that the Si will automatically engage a brake hold/hill assist feature when sport mode is engaged! Not sure if this is only on the 2019 models or not. I was parallel parking on a very steep incline last night and when I was in reverse, my car didn't roll forward! I was anticipating a huge roll forward, so I punched the gas while slowly releasing the clutch ( as I normally would do in my older NA cars), and I was pleasantly surprised that surprised that the car didn't move until I let off the clutch more.

Looks like it auto activates hill assist when on inclines in 1st gear also. I was on an incline at a traffic light and my car didn't roll backwards when I let off the clutch. I may have looked like a dbag for revving and not moving, however LOL

Last night was the first time I enabled sport mode, but definitely not the last time!

Hill hold assist always activates when you are at a complete stop on an incline above a certain number of degrees, not just in sport mode.

Car must be in gear as well. Neutral and it will roll.

I've only put 900 miles on the car (500 on a road trip) and last night was the first time noticing it! It was also the first time I drove in sport mode for more than a minute, so that's why I noticed the hill assist. Maybe the hill assist is more aggressive in sport mode? I'll try to find an incline and compare sport mode vs. normal mode.

Also, my car is a 2019, so this might've been something implemented in the refresh. I know Honda likes to include subtle changes in their mid-cycle refreshes.

It will activate in neutral as well, then release after a few seconds.

Pretty sure it's managed by a gravity sensor.
Na, I dont think it works in neutral. Gotta be in gear.

I wish I could turn it off :)
Why? I don't get that. Unless you're trying to be one of those guys who burns their clutch by going back and forth while waiting for the light.

I'm here visiting in San Francisco and confirmed it will activate regardless of where the shifter is located - including neutral. All that seems to be required is the car be on an upward incline with the brake pressed firmly. :)

Random shot from Lombard today. Used the Hill Start Assist at least a dozen times in 30 minutes lol.

Edit: after fooling around with it more yesterday and today, it looks like Hill Start Assist isn't really designed to engage in neutral after all. My experience seems to have stemmed from stiction. BUT, the system does engage on a downward slope in reverse.

Hill Hold is active all the time, by default, in all driving modes and will kick in only if the angle of the upward incline is more than a certain number of degrees.
Brake Hold (separate system) is active only when you activate it from the button, will run in all modes and will keep the car in place no matter the incline angle or if it is upward or downward.

Meh. It comes on when I don't expect it and I think somethings wrong. If I wanted assistance I'd use the brake-hold feature. 35 years of driving stick and yet to replace a clutch.

To engage hill assist you have to have your foot on the break and push the clutch in on a steep enough incline or decline. Being in gear or not doesn't matter. Also a little tidbit(no pun intended). I learned that having brake hold active and when you stop and turn off the car the brake will engage for you and you don't have to put the lever.
