I did by mistake the other night, took it out of the washing machine, seems to still work but not sure about longevity once the rust & corrosion kicks in.

Fingers crossed. It may be fine for a while but I wouldn't hold my breath on it lasting long term.

For all electronic device drop in the water, you should remove battery first ( as soon you can) and let unit dry

Ill have to check it again tonight when I get home, I use it as a backup key / secondary key for when I want to move the car in & out of the garage when the main key may be in another part of the house. I just checked on line, they are expensive, not really looking forward to replacing it.

High % alcohol content isopropyl is good for cleaning circuit boards and chips. I would take apart the remote and clean it if it were me. Just make sure to remove the battery.

Search Google on how to do so.

I fell into a pool with my fob in pocket once.

Immediately took it out of my pocket and popped it open to take out the battery and dry it out.

Much to my surprise the fob has an oring seal and had zero water ingress from my dunk.

I would think if you just took it apart and inspected it and let it dry out if it was wet it should be fine.

Another trick that has helped out cellphones that have taken a dip, is to put the device inside of a jar of dry white rice. The rice absorbs the moisture. Leave it in the rice for a couple of days.

The key fob is "water proof" to a certain degree, but its not guaranteed - this is because of the rubber seal underneath the buttons and also around the sealing edge. If you disassemble the fob, you'll see what I'm talking about.

Open up the key fob. Inside there is a little round sticker that is usually white, it will turn a reddish pinkish color if it detects moisture or water got into the electronic internal part of the fob.
