If this is the same thing I'm thinking about, it was first only offered to cold weather states, correct?
I've got nothing so far, but people in a lot warmer states than me have mentioned getting one.
I was told this is now for every state, not just cold climates.

I'm from NJ, just had my TSB recall paint completed. Anyone that had this completed feel like their car acceleration feel quicker? It might be I was due for an oil change.

Yes, but when you read the letter carefully, it reads that the Letter applies to car that have had the OD TSB mods done, and then also have developed the Misfire condition occur.

I can see Dealers saying that since you did not have the OD TSB mod done, this extended warranty and coverage does not apply to you, so here is what it will cost you $$$$$$$ !!
No, it doesn't say that. The place in the letter you are referring to is just a collection of keywords for their reference to see immediately what the letter is all about.

Apparently I read the letter more carefully. Each letter applies to the specific car with the specific VIN number and the specific owner name included in it. It gives this owner an extended warranty and promises that Honda will replace the AC computer module and do other things (what was included in the TSB and other things that were not) IF the described symptoms occur.

There is no need to keep reprogramming the AC repeatedly if oil dilution symptoms still occurred after having it already done. This letter is mainly sent to people who didn't have it done, but some number of people who did, maybe just recently, received it also.

I also read it carefully, but OK, I can see your interpretation as well ... Like all well written documents vetted by lawyers, it is conveniently ambiguous, and open to interpretation.

What I find more interesting and of concern, is what would be causing the Misfires, and what the "Rich Mixture" is really referring to, both of which they are not going to go into details about in this letter.

From my reading on the subject, I am going to assume that initially, they got the Engine Start Mixture correction too rich in the ECU programming, and that contributed significantly to increased OD in cold climates. Hence the OD fix where they re-program the ECU, and alter the engine thermal management, to speed up warm up to desired operating temperatures.

Those engine that have not had the ECU reprogrammed (and to a lesser extent if they have), suffer additional effect of this over-rich mixture when starting, resulting in the expected effects of prolonged Over Rich mixture :- fouled plug, fouled DI Injectors and engine misfire conditions.
It would also seem to hint at that the effects of any excessive OD has been seen to have a significant additional effect on wear of camshafts etc, hence they get a specific mention.

Then there is the underlying possibility that some engines are more prone to these effect than others, for whatever production variation reasons.

Personally, I appear to be one of the luck ones -- for whatever reason.

I have very minor symptoms or indication of OD - yes, I must be getting some, it's a DI engine with 0W20 oil, but my oil level remains constant, so what fuel is entering the oil, must be also leaving as well when the oil heats up.

When I did the car's 1st oil change earlier this month, there was little if any gas smell from the HOT removed oil, despite it being spread out in a large thin area, in the drain pan.

So, I'm happy ... A/C is still working fine, despite the recent high Temperatures and humidity here on the East Coast, gearbox is still extremely smooth - if only some ignorant A$$hole had not put a very slight scratch on the drivers side panel a month ago in a parking lot, I would be totally ecstatic with the car.

Somehow, between purchase, and 1st oil change, the car had lost one of the front lower engine skid panels. Philips Bolts -- which was unexpected - but maybe some of these missing bolts are NOT caused by Dealers not re-securing them correctly after an oil change.

I got this letter a few days ago as well, and I live in South Florida. I've never had any misfire codes, and my A/C has been blowing strong (and cold) for two years now. Every oil change I do I get the used oil analyzed and the analysis company notes that I have an oil dilution level of around 1.3%, and that has stayed consistent since the second oil change I have ever done on my car. With just over two years and 25,000 miles on my car, I hope this car last me many more years to come.

No, it doesn’t hint at dilution doing any damage caused by the oil being too thin to protect. It hints at the possibility of damage by oil starvation caused by morbid overfilling of the engine with oil. Most engines are built so that too much oil means actually not enough oil getting to such parts as camshafts located higher up.

That as well, Overfilling by lazy Dealers who do not take the care to service your car correctly, and add to the chances of premature engine failure.

Automotive oil reservoirs are designed to hold a bit of extra oil to compensate for fluid expansion in warm conditions, and to help prevent damage to the engine in case excessive oil is added to the engine. As a result, half a quart may not cause any damage to your engine, but much more than that could lead to engine damage.

When too much oil is poured into the reservoir, the excess oil can be pulled into the crankshaft as it spins. The oil is mixed with air and aerates – also known as ‘foaming’ – like what you might find on your morning latte. The combination of oil and air results in decreased oil pressure as the oil pump is unable to continue pumping the oil effectively.

You need to send this to the service advisor at Martin Honda ,who told me, and I quote" it doesn't matter if we over fill your oil buy 3 quarts, it will burn off through the pcv valve"

Got the letter, I always go "Ugh" when they show up but I have no symptoms and no issues. Warm weather car in Virginia and it's not been in for anything since purchase a year and a half ago. Did my own oil change at 7K, dark brown, nothing special, no signs of OD. Hoping I never have to exercise the extra year on the warranty. Good luck to all.

My car was fine through two seasons of driving. Noticed a bit of a gas smell last winter, especially warming up the car using remote start. Fuel smell in the oil, though the level never changed. TSB was done a few months ago at 35k kms.

I got the extended warranty. I still didn't receive a letter, I had to call Honda to find out and they told me they didn't have any idea about a letter being sent to people . SMH.

My understanding is everyone nationwide is getting the extended warranty. The oil dilution TSB only applies to certain cold weather states as far as I know. I don't think the dealer can force you to have it done if you don't live in the affected states, but I could be wrong.

No dealer can force me to do anything when I have a letter from American Honda bearing my name and my car's VIN saying "no action is required" regarding this issue. I'm also quite sure they won't have any reason to do it (as a hobby?) without reimbursement from Honda, if the VIN in their database is not showing it needs the TSB done.

Certainly not if I don't bring my car there. Since I bought my civic 1.5 years ago I haven't ever visited any service in relation to this car.

At the same time, I have a good relationship with the dealer, even though they (meaning the boy who did the job) did ridiculously screw up my CR-V's coolant service. As a business they are trying to do their best, it's a pity sometimes their best is just not good enough. :dunno:
