Ok guys, for the last 2wks, I have been going through all the posts and google to come with an educated conclusion on which brand route to go. Do I go mishimoto or prl?

I have prior experience with the prl cobra CAI when ran my 2018 SI. Nice effective product. No issues or complaints. Now I have a 2019 Type R and figuring out which brand products I want to run and why. I have brand ocd so I hate mixing brands. I'm already doing so with my mugen, spoon and Js racing products but hey what can you do at times right?

Anyway, this is where the community comes in, who has what brand and WHY. Is it brand loyalty, performance, price, brand unison, etc.....

Any and all input is greatly appreciated.

Products I am looking at is CAI (I have a back ordered prl on back order til Sept ), intercooler, upgraded hose, oil cooler, oil catch can (already got mishimoto brand), front/down pipe..... I see prl got the inlet pipe dropping soon.

HELP!!!!

PRL for the win. At the end of the day it's completely up to you. I ran PRL parts on my old 9th Si and will run them on my R.

I have a mixture of brands. Just make sure you do your research on each product you are looking for. For example, I personally am running the mishi intercooler; the pre sale price was a deal considering PRL did not have the pipes included. On the other hand, The oil cooler offered by USR has data to show its better than mishi’s.

Overall I would go PRL, quality and available products for the FK8 puts them in the win =)

I had PRL all bolt on for my sport hatch, it is great company and products.
I bought a type R just a month ago... i was also debating which brand to go with. I like PRL but feel like to give other brand a try.

I went with aFe for dp and fp exhaust system.
Intercooler.. i go with HKS with pipe kit. My research shows that HKS IC is better than PRL or mishimoto.
Intake system I stay with PRL and preordered the first batch... expecting aug 1!!.. excited.
I will go with PRL for inlet pipe as well..

I didnt even think to look at HKS, so far on my R I have Invidia r400 exhaust, prl CAI ordered looking like Sept for me until I get it. Not sure what front/down pipe would do for me on aftermarket exhaust already, I'm guessing they would just be bigger? ‍♂ I went with Js racing front headlights as well as Js racing front sport grill, and I went mugen visors and spoon rear view mirror and side mirrors.....clearly all over the spectrum with brands lol.

I'm so on the fence on what product line to go, I have OCD with product like but I think I'm gonna go with PRL for CAI, and get the inlet pipe, mishimoto for oil cooler kit and possibly coolant expanded tank, and for FMIC I'll look into the HKS, I was told that mishi was bigger than prl so idk but def want upgraded hose size. Decisions, decisions

The HKS fmic comes with its own pipe kit.. build quality looks awesome.. does cost more than prl but it is different build and comes with pipe.

Here are the size for your reference
PRL 26.5" x 3.5" x 7.25"
HKS: 27.36" x 3.93" x 7"
Mishi: 28" x 4.7" x7.6"

Prl is bar and plate core
Hks id tube and fin core

Tube fin usually lighter.. which is another reason why i go with hks..

As a long time wrx owner i wouldn't put anything mishimoto in my car. They have a reputation on the subaru forums as being cheap quality and sub par performance. This is just what ive read over the years, i have no experience with their products. I just took everyone's word for it.

Both companies have pros and cons. Mishimoto stands up with social media and "track testing/dyno" PRL has made their dyno graphs posted. My experience Mishimoto, ehh decent quality and great packaging, fits fine with OEM parts. PRL normally a cnc'd part but lacks instructions. I have seen turbo kits installed by a friends shop with little information, if a backyard mechanic would try it he/she would be confused to install their $8k turbo kit.

Question is what is your build and what would you like to do? Mishimoto only currently offers cooling (I/C and oil cooler), intake, and an oil catch can. PRL has cooling, intake, flex-fuel kit.

I have Mishimoto products as their intercooler offered hard piping and their intakes were one of the first to market. As for fitment, I opted to get the Koyo radiator and "modifications" were made to fit the larger intercooler and radiator.

I use both and depends what I need. I have Mishi intake and catch can and am very happy with both products. Looking at their oil cooler next as I like the packaging it has, only wish they had for sale a proper vent to go with it. Otherwise my only other option is USR there. I have PRL DP and intercooler and will order their turbo intake pipe once it comes out. Both companies imho make good products.

Obtain the PRL IC with all the fixings. Use a drop in filter - you already have a CAI stock. Don’t fuss with DP/FP unless you are opting for a bigger turbo. With tuning hardware (most likely Hondata for the CTR) you will have all you need.
Very simple.

What's wrong with the 3" front pipe on the r400? I have my r400 paired to a PRL downpipe (catted, I sort of wish I got catless, but not sure if I could get away with it in MD) I know emissions would be fine as long as there is no CEL, I just don't want to be stopped in front of a cop and have him smell it.

I'd go PRL personally, that's just because I love their DP and intercooler and they are developing some cool stuff along the way. I do have the mishimoto intake however, but it heat soaks terribly and takes too long for intake temperatures to drop back to normal after sitting at a light or stuck in traffic

You can't go wrong with either brand. Both are top notch. It does seem like PRL pricing is a bit better though.
