Thanks! I had no idea about the right paddle switching off manual mode. Going to try that today!
I have to credit someone else around here for pointing it out to me, too. It's in the manual somewhere, but I just never noticed it. Before that, I had been moving the shift lever from "S" to "D" and back to "S" to get back to full-auto "S" mode.

I have a 2017 EX sedan cvt and was told at the dealership the 's' stood for sport. That the injecters sprayed more fuel into the engine giving a little more getty up. I have never researched it, so is it second gear or Sport mode?

Sounds like typical dealer BS. If changing it to "S" did ANYTHING other than affect gearing ratios, it'd maybe modulate throttle response a bit. There's no way it ups fuel injection.

I call it "Sport" mode because it keeps the revs higher, it'll hold a chosen gear just like a manual, and seems to close the throttle more (or whatever) so that engine braking is stronger.

My wife's CR-V has D, S, and L. I presume it's Drive, Sport, and Low. Same basic idea, except there's no shift paddles, and L uses an even shorter gear ratio than S for steep climbs and steep descents.

It would make sense. Just going based off of "feel", I would agree that it is sport mode. At the end of the day, Honda CVTs feel better than competition CVTs.

Looking at the manual on the Civic 2016 in Canada. It does not call it "Second".
It simply says to use this mode when you want more acceleration and is ideal for going up or down hills.

I have already driven in "S" to test, and there is "gear shifting" (CVT so no gears), and not stuck in "Second gear".
Of course, using S mode, means the car will consume a lot more fluid. It nearly doubles the RPMs.
